Grab a sack of money and start looking for a started dog. Budget $5,000-$7,500 and cut your training time by 100%. Would start looking in Texas since most of the CST trainers winter from College Station south and leave out around March headed north. Their marginal/washouts will be sold for training credit and you can sometimes find true gems.
Also, dogs don't learn from watching other dogs work. This is an ancient coonass misconception

I understand some people just want a good dog off the go and don’t care to have a pet or companion, but I can’t imagine also living with a dog that was raised by another man. Raising a pup while watching them grow and learn is what it’s all about.

And yeah, I’m not spending 7 grand on a dog unless it cooks me breakfast every morning.

I bought a dog off Danny Farmers truck for a client of mine that was raised by one of the top amateurs in America. She rode in the truck with while i had her and was a pleasure to be around. Client was a hardazz and said he never let a dog in the house and wasn't going to start with her. Went to his house a couple weeks after the deal and she was laying next to his recliner while he read the WSJ. He will deny it but there were tears shed when she died of cancer a few years later. You don't have to raise them for them to become yours, treat them right and they will bond just fine.

The best duck dog is a black lab. Not all black labs are good duck dogs and you can certainly make other dogs into successful duck dogs. But the gold standard is the black lab, whether it’s Brittish or American.

Some Goldendoodles do, some don’t. Mine doesn’t at all.
