Duck Calls

I used to duck hunt a lot when I was younger but haven't blown a call in 20 years. I'm going to start hunting again on my buddy's property in the Lake Larto area and need to buy a call. What brand-model would ya'll recommend? Back in the day I had a Haydel and a Pintail whistle and that's it.

Can't go wrong with them. Won't break the bank, and sound good.

Well you are in luck. 20 years ago, the cabelas and Mack’s prairie wings catalogs had maybe two pages dedicated to duck calls. Now there are probably 10 pages so plenty to choose from of all different colors

Thats why I'm asking. Whats the easiest to blow for basic calling. Im not buying 20 pages of calls.

Haydel's DR-85

Yep. I like to pair it with the Haydel's Pintail whistle as well. You can cover Mallard drakes, Pintail, Wigeon, and teal all with that one call.

You're not a SEC ref are you?

RNT Mondo LTS. It’s a bit pricey but it’s my favorite call on my lanyard. Makes a real raspy sound identical to an old hen mallard.

Things haven't changed.

Custom is the only way to baw. The more expensive the more ducks like it.

RNT shortbarrel in Akirlik or a cd playa.

It's a crime that this post won't be seen by more people

You want to know how old I am? On my call lanyard I have two Faulks, one Yentzen and a couple Haydels. I use the Faulks and Yentzen the most. I can't blow a feeding call with the double reed Yentzen. I see all are still out there for sale.

I have a Buck Gardner Swap Meat that I really like. It comes with a single reed and a double reed tone board, so you can easily swap back and forth. The double reed is pretty easy to blow. The double takes a bit more practice, but you get a lot more out of it.

Sure Shot. The only call you’ll ever need.

Haydels RL-99 "Red Leg"
It'll run you about $30 and it is extremely versatile.

dr-85 or echo timber. More money does not always equal a better call.
