Why does false river suck so bad? What is its problem and is there a real plan to fix it and make it a decent place to fish again?

I have a theory and it involves all of the beer cans that are on the bottom of it.

Problem is they got rid of the grass about 20 years ago and dug the canals on both ends and now it silts up the lake.

They are gonna draw it down, and dig out the ends and use the silt to build barrier islands in front the canals to prevent the silting up

My dad used to smoke the bass in false river. Well he still does just doesn't go as much he used to. Find the trees.

Also tons of half dead shad in the water and tons of birds dive bombing them. But no fish. Even on tops and brush tops that always produce.

Yeah, you're not going to catch shite until they get rid of the silt and get grass back in there.

This. One of the canals runs thru my place. Was once a honey hole for Sac au lait. The canal was only a small ditch and now it is so big that right after they dug it, one could run a boat thru it. Then the banks started caving in. That push the silt to False River.

Then at the same time, home owners and camp owners wanted the grass killed off around there piers, so WL&F's did that. Bam, they killed the lake.

Back in the late 1980's, the lake was on fire. Best bass was 9 lbs,6 oz for me. Use to fish the lake 4 to 5 times a week. In the last 10 years, I haven't fish it.

Are they going to fix it? They are only throwing 1 million bucks to try to fix it. That is not enough.

It's turned into a water sports / boat riding lake. It ain't going back to a fishing lake.

Fish: Are you located on the Ventress side of False River? My brother-in-law has the place next to the golf course on the New Roads side.

It's become a giant version of City Park/University Lakes. FR used to be a fishing Mecca, and cars would be lined up for a mile at Bonaventure's Boat Landing.

They're not even in business any more. The place was falling down last time I passed False River.

yeah, its been closed for at least ten years I think. Not sure if true, but someone told me they sold to a company who was going to build some condos, then after the sale found out they had been dumping stuff behind the restuarant for 40 years and was going to have to do extensive dirt work in order to build. Hence why it's just sitting there.

my gradaddy's camp was 4 houses down from there.

I caught many a fish on that lake.

I hear there are lots of hybrids in there now. Those diving birds were likely working shad pushed up by schooling fish if so. If anyone is interested in how to fish the hybrids I can drop some knowledge from my experience here in east TX.

OP please fix the title you done been anchored.
