Same here, but I treated myself to a Tikka left hand .270 a couple of years ago, and love it. You just need to practice working the bolt, and it is no big deal.
I killed a rat dead as a hammer at about 10 yards with .22 CCI rat shot from a revolver. It works very well at that distance.
Sort of like alligators in Louisiana. I am 75 years old, and when I was a kid, you never saw an alligator. Now the damn things are in Bayou Lafourche in the middle of Thibodaux. We have even seen them in Grand Isle. The same thing will happen with mountain lions, wolves and bears in the West. They are the apex predators and without some sort of conservation hunting, they will proliferate. The urban and Eastern liberals will never have to deal with them, so they are Disney animals as far as they are concerned.

I have been knowing Stalecracker since he was a boy. You are right about his foolishness, but he was dead serious about shrimp spiders. They are delicious.
I have been a practicing attorney for almost 50 years and have never found the need to use either "Doctor" or "Esquire". One would have to be a pompous :moon: to do so. Now, I am proud of the J.D. earned at LSU back before the law school got kinder and not so afraid to flunk out those who did not perform, but I have no need for a title.
My exact deal. Learned to shoot left handed at an early age. Shoot rifles and shotguns left, pistols use right hand, but center up and use left eye.

Yep, but I know where Highway 653 is and know a lot of people that live there. Just had never heard of the local name for that area.

Lived in Lafourche Parish most of my life and never heard of Butch Hill. Where is that?

re: Little Lake Hunting Club in Lafitte

Used to be comprised of a lot of blue bloods from New Orleans, and a very old duck club. I was invited to hunt there several times by a member, but Katrina destroyed the then clubhouse and I don't know much about it now, as I have not been in years. The hunting was great at one time, but I imagine that salt water intrusion and land loss has affected that greatly. Kind of a unique operation, and they would put you in a pirogue and tow you, and others, behind a mud boat to your blind. There were a few incidents of boats being swamped and it would look like a plane wreck with all of the stuff in the water. Locals were the guides, and the food was terrific.

A .22 is more than enough to make an armadillo jump higher than you ever thought possible.

re: Fishing Private Docks

Posted by byutgr on 7/6/23 at 4:04 pm
As one who has owned property with a dock on Grand Isle for many years, I certainly understand that the public has a right to fish in any public waters. Now, those of us who own those docks have spent considerable time, effort and money to build, maintain, repair those docks. If you don't own one in a place like Grand Isle that takes a beating regularly from Hurricanes, you really don't understand how much goes into one. I can tell you that it is a little aggravating when you are fishing from your dock, under your light, and some inconsiderate fisherman comes rolling in with a boat casting under the light. Kind of like the pot lickers that we all gripe about when fishing from a boat. Most of the time, a little common courtesy will go a long way. If I am not fishing, I don't really care if anyone fishes from a boat or kayak under my light. However, if I am fishing, why not just ask politely if I would mind if they fish? Again, I understand that they can fish anywhere in public waters, and I don't control the area, however just a little common courtesy (something lacking in today's society) would certainly be appreciated. Downvote away.

re: Golf cart for neighborhood/hunting

I have a 48 volt Club Car that I use for both. Now my longest drive to a stand is about 1.25 miles, and no hills. What we like about using electric golf carts is that they are quiet, and our theory is that they will not spook the deer if they are in the food plot. The cart is lifted and has large, mud grip type tires.
You need to find an older Boston Whaler Montauk and do a restoration on it. There are a lot on You Tube that you could review. Great work by a skilled craftsman.

And if the weather is not good, neither a boat or a guide will be of much help.

Same here in south Louisiana. Had more deer on camera last night than the last two weeks. Also had three bucks show up that I have not seen in a while. Now, will we see them in the day time???

re: Shooters ear

At 73, and many years of duck hunting without hearing protection, I now wear hearing aids. Now, I deer hunt and never shoot a rifle or pistols without hearing pro. The hearing aids help somewhat with the tinnitus, although as I type this I hear the ringing. The good news about hearing loss is that you cannot hear the wife snoring so much at night!

List, I have the Moultrie Edge, and it takes great pics. I like the fact that I do not need a SD card. Make sure that you tilt it towards the ground a bit. I had mine flush on a tree and I was missing a lot of pics that should have been triggered by motion. Also, I recommend the standard unlimited plan where you pay monthly. I got the standard plan, 1000 pics a month, and believe me, that is not enough. Especially when you set it to go off in bursts at certain intervals. Otherwise, I am very pleased with the camera.

re: Grand Isle Tent Camping

There are not many policemen on the Island, and they are not able to be at all places at one time. It is just like the golf cart ordinance, and no cars or trucks on the beach ordinance. There will always be violations that are not caught by the police. Although most folks would pick up their trash and waste, those that don’t are the reason for the ordinance. Grand Isle has done a great job of making the beach a nice place for families to enjoy but unfortunately there are those who leave trash, old tents, bbq pits etc after their party. Most of us do not need laws in order to act responsibly.
