I have a lone wolf that I've used for a long time I use it occasionally, I bought it because of its mobility. Its not particularly comfortable in my opinion. . I have a JX3 hybrid saddle I got a few years ago as well. Its comfortable, little bit of a learning curve. Honestly I usually go and sit with one of my grands in a two man ladder while they are armed with a crossbow. I haven't shot a deer with my bow in 3 years now. Summits are good stands .

I use it early in bow season when I'm motivated. By rifle season I just go climb in a box stand, especially if it's cold.
As to height, I found I prefer to climb a tree higher on the bank looking down toward a bottom. If I only go up 10-12' I'm probably 25' above the game trail I watch. I have 4 different trees in different spots I use year after year where that set up comes together.

I used to use an Ole Man before I slide about 18 feet down a hardwood.
Switched over to the TreeWalker and feel much safer.

Have used a Buck Shot for forty years. Haven't been made for years. It's a two piece climber that uses metal angles to grip the tree and has maybe 1 inch metal tubes for the frames. You are facing the tree when climbing and hunting. It has a back rest and the frames act as sides. You can stand and sit as you hunt.

If I'm on my lease, then I'm in a box. Most of the tree aren't big enough to climb.
But when I'm on public land, I prefer our ladders until the rut. When the rut hits, I'm in a Summit Viper. I have two so I can lock one to a tree at my honey hole and use the other if someone is parked at that spot. But the Summit is so comfortable, I can and will sit all day during the rut. I can't sit in a ladder stand all day.

Viper out of those two. The Goliath is too big unless you are like 500 pounds.

Friend of mine was a huge hunter. Hunted every weekend and some weekdays.
Always hunted out of a climber.
Last time in one he got it to its height and was adjusting his harness when the top chain broke. He fell 15-20 feet and landed on his back. He had to have 5 vertebrae fused. He’s walked with a cane and hunch over ever since.
He tried to sue but the company that made his stand (I don’t remember which one if was but a well known name) had declared bankruptcy several times and rechartered that he couldn’t get anything.
I mostly hunt out of a box blind but have a few ladder stands.

A saddle or a really light lock on is definitely the way to go with bow hunting. Takes some time to get used to climbing with the sticks but you have so many more options with the trees you can hunt out of.

For bow hunting the Summit Open Shot is THE way to go.
Have used one for 20 years. Just change the cables out every few years as needed.
But I take my in and back out on every hunt so they never get left out in the elements

Sucks. Man that stuff scares the fool outta me. I used to sky in my ol man stand. Prob wont do that any more in my 50’s
