Campfire smoke and then broken pine branch rubbed over clothes with a dab of tinks skunk essence or coon scent on bottom of both boots
ETA: Skunk essence is a no go for any enclosed hunting situation and leave the boots outside always when you get home
Also use a drag rag dipped in Tinks doe pee or 69 during rut on walk to stand

I used to buy hunting brand detergent until I saw this: John Eberhart on Detergents and Soaps This dude is a supreme scent control freak and very well respected. He is like a football coach for deer hunting and scent control.

Take you hunting clothes outside and let them air out for a day then store them in a tote with dead leaves. You can even put green pine or cedar limbs in with them.

The deer don't give a shite about laundry smells. It's you they smell and their instincts say Predator Alert. That's my opinion.
What I mean is- your clothes can have zero scent and your body soap can have zero scent but you still do. And they will smell you.

I drink coffee in a ladder stand and have had deer walk 10 yards from me multiple times. So I just don't worry about it any more.

I use scent away to cover up my cigarette smoking from wife

People have no concept of how good the scenting ability of a deer( or dog) is.
A coonhound can get sprayed directly in the face by a skunk,Roll around, slobber, rub their face all over the ground and 20 minutes later tree a coon.
A narcotic officer told me stories that are remarkable.Caught guys with marijuana stuffed in 2”” PVC pipe that was in a 4” pvc pipe with mothballs and drug dog could still smell the dope.
Deer have better scenting ability than most dogs so good luck trying to cover your scent with cedar limbs or pine needles.
I read a article by a bowhunter once, his theory was that deer were instinctively afraid of the odors given off by carnivorous animals.
He would go on vegetarian diet a few weeks before hunting season and stay on it through deer season. He said it worked much better than trying to cover his scent.
Sounds reasonable to me.

I remember reading a story about what was then the Mississippi state record buck killed near Columbus, MS in the late 80's/early 90's. The guy was sitting in a wooden ladder stand and said he had just finished eating a sandwich and smoking a cigarette when the buck came out.

I’d rather pay for the expensive scent eliminators that I know 100% don’t do anything than stop eating meat.

Except for the whole vegetarian thing
I love deer hunting, but not that much.

I bet if I stopped eating meat and start watching soccer and the view, deer would just let me walk up and pet them.

Baking soda. Dirt cheap and works great.
Regardless of any of that, just hunt the wind.
This always cracks me up, just like "spent x amount to duck hunt, why cheap out on shells and not buy bismuth!?"
Just because I'm already spending a bunch doesn't mean I need to unnecessarily spend more...

I bet the cop didn't tell you about all the times the dog never alerted. I watched a dog fail outside a Popeyes in Oakdale. The cops knew the drugs were there because the girl crack head told on her crackhead boyfriend. She had to point out where the drugs to the cops because the dog couldn't find them. It was the most entertaining lunch break ever.
Inevitably the anit-scent control crowd comes out on these threads. I commend this board for not getting nasty about it like on facebook. There are very sound arguments on both sides.
As for detergent, the UV brighteners in regular detergent are the main reason to stay away from them. If you are moving and glowing you are more likely to get picked.

I just do a standard wash cycle with no soap... Like every 3 years.
