buy some crystallized ginger and eat it a couple of times per day for about5 2 days prior to your trip. It will keep the seasickness/nausea at bay and it won't make you drowsy like Dramamine will. If you are not accustomed to being in swells in a boat you will most likely suffer at least some motion sickness the ginger works.

Is this for real? I normally use the scopaline patches but they dry me out and I end up with horrible heartburn.

If theres an Asian Market near you or a well stocked grocery store with a good tea selection looks for some Instant Ginger Drink. It works really good for sea sickness and it helps your stomachnif you have heartburn. I had horrible GERD, the lil Chinese dude at the Asian Market put me on it and my GERD is nearly gone.

If you do not know if you are prone to seasickness or not, definitely go ahead and take dramamine at least 15-30 min before the boat leaves the dock. Seasickness will ruin the trip for you and others.

Wear sunscreen, sunglasses and/or a hat

Dont get wasted the night before, you will get dehydrated on the boat no matter how much water or Gatorade you consume while out there. Electrolytes while on the water make it really easy to enjoy the trip. I like the liquid IV mixed in a bottle of water a few times during the trip.

Be respectful of other people's equipment like the boat, rods/reels, and tackle.

Help clean the boat or the fish when you get back.

Skip the OTC medication and go get some scopolamine patches. Put it on the night before you go to bed. Do it even if it doesn't expect to be too rough. You don't want to be the guy 50 miles offshore and puking every 5 minutes or the guy who wants to come back in early. You are all the way out there, you want to enjoy some cold beer and a sandwich while fishing, not being the chum maker.

Make sure you do like I did and set the hook like an idiot and hit the brand new motor cover with the weight. I still feel bad about it and this was like 3 years ago.

Bring lots of bananas. They help with being sea sick, don't take up much room and can be shared with other fisherman.

After cutting bait or gaffing a fish use washdown hose and rag to try and get the blood off before the sun bakes it on the deck especially in June. Drink plenty of water and take sea sick meds as recommended and have a good time. Always pay your share in fuel/bait because at the end of the day the boat owner has spent 15x the amount you just paid for fuel to keep the boat maintained and offshore ready..(Very expensive to maintain offshore rig).Help clean the boat and treat the reels/equipment as if it were your own as NONE of it is cheap especially if its electric and tuna/marlin capable tackle.. Also the fish are just a bonus it should be snapper season so you should catch some if you can get out. Go have a good time and enjoy the scenery! Its Always an adventure and never know what you will see or find/catch offshore its what keeps me going back! Good luck
