Is this allowed? Had a guy tell me you can, but the regs say you can't damage a tree. Does that count as damage, or not?

I'm not talking about big limbs, but smaller ones that you can't get a stand around unless you cut them with some trimmers. Not something you would need a saw on basically.

Easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.

you can trim a limb for your climber, no green jeans is going to take you in for that. You just cant go in there with a chainsaw and start cutting shooting lanes or a pothole.

I hunted Spring Bayou WMA about 12 yrs ago. Found a ladder stand out there and climbed in it just to see the view. You could have landed an airplane on those shooting lanes.

Pruning timber trees to 16+ feet makes for better logs with less knotting. You should do it and invoice them for labor.

I've done it for years when using a climber, but I've never cut anything bigger around than my thumb.

Read the specific regs for the wma. Some state that you can't have any kind of saw on your person. If the branch is small enough for me to break, I break them if I need to. Normally I just try to find a tree that requires no work

This too although I've only ever seen this for a NWR or national forest (kisatchie). The state run WMAs don't have the "no saws" stipulation as far as I know.

Too many people "own" their spot in that reserve. Hard to hunt there and not have to deal with some BS.

Yeah, don't cut in one of those. That type of greenjeans has no sense of humor.

You can do like ol boy did in spring bayou couple years ago and just cut all the damn trees down to block public access. Then you can have all the deer to yourself!

Which is why I said many hunters in there feel it's THEIR land. It's a shame because Spring Bayou is a nice WMA.

I'd have fun with that. Head out at 2 and find a stand, climb it with a camera.

I have a buddy who wants every tree to look like a damn telephone pole. He doesnt understand cover. He doesn't just trim to get to a good spot....he makes sure he is wide open and visible. He normally just hunts out of box stands so i can't blame him for being ignorant.
