I had no idea magnetic north was changing. Also, I knew magnetic north and true north were different but didn't know they were so far off from each other.

I hope this magnetic north shift doesn't frick up the trajectories of our ICBMs if we ever use them.....that would suck.....

No it wasn't. I guarantee most people still hunting in south la have never busted more ice than last winter. Some days last year and in 14, and 09-10 it was so thick it wasn't worth busting.

I'm 40 and hunted north Louisiana for long time

busting ice to get to the hole was much more common than now

how are we arguing this?

Maybe in your memory but go on any historical weather site and pick Dec/Jan of random years for your location and it won't show you having more freezes 20-30 years ago than it does now.

Yup. Every hunter tends to remember the past in the most extreme ways, whether it be good or bad. Got damn at the ice around this time last year.

wait what?

you are saying that it is untrue that there were more days below freezing in the 80s than in the 2010s?

I understand exactly what you are saying Wick, it isn't a hard concept. It is a good theory and I can absolutely guarantee you that there are biologists and ph.d candidates writing thesis papers on this as we speak.

Seems like a pretty solid theory to me but wouldn't it affect all of the flyways the same if that were the cause, not just the Mississippi flyway? Have folks on the east/west coasts seen a migratory change consistent with the Mississippi flyway?

According to research 85-89 had a lot more days below freezing but those year are outliers going back to 1900 besides a couple years in the early 60s

This is a non-issue with ducks.

Magnetic north has not been true north for most of the earths history. Magnetic north has been moving slowly my entire life and probably for millions of years. It has even switched poles a few times in earths history.

The difference between true north and magnetic north is called East declination or West declination. I don't know what it is right now for our are but in the 1990 time frame it was off by almost 4 degrees. Some places in Canada at that time were off by as much as 22 degrees from true north.

Non-issue for duck hunting.
