To have to take time to take a course, pass a test in order to CC is one more hurdle for law abiding people. The crazy people you are guys are scared of are doing to carry a weapon anyway.

It eliminates the crime of illegal concealed carry without a permit.....Current Louisiana law allows residents 21 and over to carry a non-concealed handgun without a permit.
The law just permits me to carry without being concerned whether my coat makes it concealed. The hurdles are what prevent me from having a permit today. I purchased a CC class in a CCA Banquet silent auction last year and have yet to find to schedule it.

Unless they are breaking the law, what you think of them does not matter in the slightest.

It most certainly does if you think our opinions matter to our legislators, and that seems to be what this thread is about, sharing our opinions with our legislators.

I think the people he's worried about are the idiot knuckle heads that would never have carried, except that now they can, so they will. They're not law-breakers, they're just stupid.

There's a reason we have the highest incarceration rate and the highest insurance rates. It's related to our having the lowest literacy rates.

Funny how attitudes have changed with time and legislation (which with time normalizes an attitude that would have been repugnant before). Given the motivations behind almost every gun-control law in the US you'd think some would be more receptive to these laws. Carrying concealed of any weapon was seen as dishonest, duplicitous behavior up until the early decades of the 20th Century, Louisiana being one of the earliest states to ban carrying concealed weapons (not necessarily a firearm) in 1813. Those laws, when specifically mentioning firearms, started in the South and moved on to the rest of the country (thatsracist.gif) around the same time as the Civil War though New York was the first to limit concealed carry to a discretionary system involving a permit. If anyone here had actually read many of these state statues you'd find a lot of commonality between them in terms of scope and language used and that isn't by accident, the NRA, USRA, well-heeled hunting/sport shooting enthusiasts of the time made sure that racism and class-bias played a significant role in gun-control laws (1934 NFA anyone?) and there were national discussions to promote uniformity. While some of you might vew Constitutional carry as an aberration, it's actually getting things back to the way they were where carrying a weapon was more equitably exercised.

Stupid idea. The thugs on the street conceal without permits. Permits for CC are what differentiates the thugs from the rest of us. Personally, I want the police to be able to pick up a thug based for unlawful CC. Sometimes people lose sight of the forest.

Bapple pointed me to this thread earlier today. I can't believe I am reading all of this opposition on here.

Gun Grabbing Liberal - "I only want cops and the government to have guns. Let take the rights of everyone else away."

Everyone Here Against This Bill - "I only want cops, the government, and people I deem okay to be able to carry guns. Let's take the rights of everyone else away."

If you oppose this because you fear, cringe, don't want certain law abiding citizens, who you deem thugs and idiots, to have the right to posses firearms you are just like the liberals. The only difference is, as far as they are concerned you are an idiot thug who doesn't need a gun either..

Wow... I see I touched off quite the firestorm...

This law is simply about getting back to our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to bear arms. It's insanity that we need to "buy back" our right in the form of a temporary permit.

If you don't agree with it, then as Propagandalf said, you're just as bad as the pussy liberals who want to take my guns away.

This is the most stupid statement I've ever read on this board and if you believe that, turn in your firearms and go sign up for ballet lessons.

You honestly believe that the only thing that differentiates me from a TPOS is a piece of paper with a government officials signature and an expiration date on it?

How about these things to just name a few?

Common sense
Respect for life
Respect for propterty
Respect for laws (whether I agree with them or not)
Common decency
Good nature
Compassion for fellow man

I could go on...

Frick yes.
Shame on you if you oppose this bill and claim to be a person who wants smaller government. This is fricken nuts that so many on here don't like this bill.

This is really terrible.

Louisiana is a pain the arse;
Go to class for 8 damn hours.
Pay for the class.
Dig up every record, including how many times you farted in third grade.
Fill out a bullshite form for LSP.
Pay more money.
Wait six weeks.
Get permit, if they aren't too busy with Mardi Gras, Christmas holidays, washing the patrol cars, etc.
Wait 5 years and do this stupid shite again.

DO it like Alabama and stop making a law-abiding citizen kiss your arse to get a permit.

To add:

Does anyone here honestly think lowlife scum don't conceal carry b/c they are breaking the law?

Hell, NOPD confiscated 40+ guns along the parade routes this year.
(Knowing NOPD they probably stole another 40 more, but that's another topic.)

Our state's onerous requirements are only preventing law-abiding citizens from concealed-carrying.

That much should be very obvious to anyone.
Thugs is gonna thug, no matter what.

This is the worst idea I have ever heard. It will just make it easier for the criminals to hide their intentions. If one is going to carry there should be training and a background check.

Do you even comprehend what you're saying?

So you're telling me criminals don't carry guns if they didn't sit thru an 8 hour class or get a permit from Johnny Law?

Holy shite! You just solved Firearm-associated crime! Call Barrack Obama!

This is a bad idea, when I took my ccl class, I was terrified by the lack of basic knowledge by most of the class. But at least they were getting some education!

Now you want your everyday wannabe thugs and wife beaters carrying on a whim??
