Climber Stand vs. Hang On w/ Stick Steps

I think your first consideration should be the type of trees in your hunt area. If you're hunting the piney woods, a climber is great. No so much in the Midwest.

Or you could saddle route.


I went from climbers, to lock on, to saddle. I moved from climber to lock on so I could hang in any tree. I moved from lock on to saddle to save weight.

I use a few of each. I have a summit viper SD for comfort and rifle season. I use a Lone Wolf Hand Climber during bow season if there are decent trees in the area. I have a Millenium M7 Microlite with Muddy pro sticks that I use when hunting in an area where I want to climb in to heavy cover.

My favorite stand by far is the Lone Wolf hand climber. It's super quiet, light, and quick to set up and climb with. If I bought a lock on again it would probably be a lone wolf. The cast aluminum platforms are dead quiet compared to the hollow aluminum some manufacturers use.

I can be up a tree in less than 10 min as silent as a mouse.

Climbers are bulky, clunky, loud, heavy and an all around pain in the arse.

Climber gives you a whole lot of options in the South.

People who say climbers are loud and clunky have never used a Lone Wolf hand climber. Best thing since sliced bread in the South on public land. Light, folds flat and no wider than my shoulders. Never used a tree saddle but i know a lot of people that both love them and hate them. If you’re staying in one place, a millennium lock on is hard to beat.

I know for a fact that I can get in a tree a lot quicker and quieter with a lock on and sticks than I could with a climber. Once you figure out a routine with how to hang your lock on and sticks its super simple and way more quiet to hang than climbing with a climber. Even better that you can hunt just about any tree versus having ot hunt for a straight limbless tree for a climber. The saddle option just takes that even farther

Wow, it takes me double time with a lock on.

I personally like a fixed. I can’t climb like I used to. But a climber allows you to move into areas where you see a lot of signs. Also allows you to go as high as you need.
