Show us how a hen does fit that exception. What percentage of hen ownership per capita equals "usual". I know that if I go over to someones house and they have chickens I would think that interesting and unusual. If I went to someone's house and they had a dog, just another day. The OB is mostly a group of reasonable individuals. The fact that no one in this thread agrees that poultry fits the exception should be an indication of how the HOA will view your case on hens being an exception. They listed poultry for a reason. We are not your HOA, if you want to argue your point and be right then open up your wallet and take it up with your HOA. It doesn't matter if you win your fight here, although it seems unlikely.

Have a daughter that lives in North La. city. Her neighbor has chickens and a rooster. City ordinance says chickens is ok but no roosters-

Chickens attract the neighborhood riff raff

Perhaps you could offer to sell the chicken to the HOA with the understanding that you aren’t actually going to give them the chicken.

Chickens are a fricking mess and are typically associated with poor neighborhoods
Yeah maybe in your hood but it’s not the case here. I got a friend about a half mile a way with a $5k coop and and homes that start at 800k
You got some rich trashy friends.

That happened downtown. Now fewer people are raising chickens since the bears figured out this free, captive fresh meal.

I recall the bear precautions we took at Philmont (Northern NM), and that was just for black bears. And we still saw bears on the property.
Just imagine if the threat was polars/grizzlies/Alaskan brownies? I remember the story of the pig farm some genius put on the polar bear migration route somewhere in Canada. The bears came back for years and years, confused, thinking, "Man, I know they had a whole motherfricking pig farm around here one year."

OP's HOA: "you are fined $500 for harboring livestock"
OP: "but the OB said chickens could be pets!"

Neighbor killed a 725 lb brown bear last year when it got into his chicken pens.
Chicken not make good house pet
The ABC brown bears here in SE have both grizzly and polar bear DNA. They get rather large

I guess wanting to be more self sufficient is trashy today in modern Louisiana.

If OP was dead serious on this venture, he should see if he can qualify his hen as a service animal.

It's a shame what has happened to the good people of La. And you too, Chad.

My son wanted a chicken truck for our backyard. I had to tell him we were not trashy enough for that yet.

not really. I live in an HOA with lot sizes ranging from 1-1.33ish size acres. So homes aren't on top of eachother. We actually had someone try to have some chickens and the HOA hammered down on it. We are friends with the neighbors of the guy that had them. They didn't go tattle tale on them but weren't too happy with him having them neither. The smell and noise is a nuisance. There's plenty of places to live if that's the type of life you want to live. Not in 95% of the HOA's out there.
