I shot a fat doe this morning with that set up. Bergara B-14 7mm08 and Dead Air Nomad XC Ti. Had the rifle barrel cut to 18”, recrowned, and threaded locally. Shooting Hornady Lite 120gr. 125 yard shot broadside and dropped like a rock.
I have a Ruger American Ranch in 300 BLK and it is a shooter. I wouldn’t be afraid to go the Ruger 7mm08 route. Palmetto State had the Ruger compact in 18” for $350 recently but you’ll have to get the barrel threaded. If you buy from Silencer Central, they thread barrels for you. They’ll send you a box with a soft gun case, that you’ll ship your gun/barrel in. They have a pretty in depth FAQ on their website that’ll answer your questions.
Definitely get a HUB can. I bought the Nomad XC from a local gun store in December and it had a 5 day wait. They fingerprint you, snap a passport photo, and file an eform with the ATF on your behalf.
For a hunting rifle, I would stick to just direct threading and not worry about a QD mount, but you will want that QD mount on an AR if you have one.

I’m about to do this for my 3006. What are y’all’s thoughts on the rugged 360. I may get my Henry 357 threaded as well.

Jonathon Reulet is in Madisonville and does work for us. He added a muzzle brake on my 35 Whelen.

Mauser M18 come threaded for silencer. Just get a normal sized gun in 7.08. Will kill anything you and your son want to shoot…..NO SST ammo. Get the Hornady coreloc equivalent

No need for the call of duty cosplay, just buy some quality hearing protection.
You’ve said this in other threads and it is such a horrible take.
I’ve known plenty of people that get buck fever and forget to put in/on their hearing protection.

The ONLY reason to buy a gun with a muzzle brake is that it’s already threaded fora suppressor. The FIRST thing to do if you do buy one equipped as such is to remove and THROW AWAY the brake. I would rather have a misspelled tattoo than use a rifle with a muzzle brake.
It may reduce the recoil a small amount but it will increase the muzzle blast (noise) by a factor of 10x. Shooting the gun without muffs on WILL result in immediate hearing damage (permanent btw). It’s a terrible trade off. Full size muffs (like you will need to use a rifle with a brake) are hard to use when you’re getting your cheek on the stock to look through a scope.
DEFINITELY get a suppressor. It will reduce recoil AND noise, significantly on both. It will make shooting much more of a pleasant activity for your son.
You can have most guns threaded if you buy one that isn’t. I’ve had three done so far and had two AR’s that came that way. It’s a little bit of an aggravation as you need to find a store that has the Silencer Central kiosk and buy your can there. All the paperwork and fingerprints can be done there electronically. You pay for your suppressor and go back and get it when you get approved.
I cannot stress enough how bad of an idea a muzzle break is, unless you’re already deaf. I had one and used it once. Only gun I ever sold and didn’t regret selling, not for a second. It was a Browning ABolt with their “BOSS” brand brake. I sold it to my store manager at JD. I asked him about it the Monday after he took it hunting. Said it worked VERY well. Said he’d killed a doe with it at almost 175 yards. I said well that’s great I guess. He said only thing was he couldn’t find the bullet hole. Anywhere. Said it was unblemished and perfect all over hide wise.
I was confused and asked how that could have happened.
“I THINK THE GD NOISE FROM THE SHOT KILLED HER!” He replied. Said it almost killed him. Never forgot that. F a brake.

Huh, I figured it would be more. This makes me want to do this with my B14. I also still want to get a carbon barrel Bergara in another caliber (I have a 6.5cm), and those come with the brake so maybe ready to thread one on too.

Find a used Remington Model 7. The older the better.

Mauser doesn't make a 7mm08. Sauer does make a 7mm08 and for the money is the best factory rifle on the market. Its as well made as any 2k rifle for half the price. I have a .243 that is a tac drive definitely sub MOA and on a good day possible .5 .75 MOA. Im about to build a 500 yard and in West Texas hunting rifle I thought about the 2606 3006 308 6.5 Prc 270 not a creedmore guy. I decided on the 7mm08 its the best deer cartridge out there. My opinion. I have a 300 wsm so dont need a magnum rifle.

O I apologize. Beatiful dog. I really enjoy my PP. He is an incredible hunter.
We duck hunt every weekend but he loves to upland hunt and can cover some ground. We hunted the upland inn in Greensburg KS last year as a two year old he did great.

That's a slick looking gun, let us know how it shoots. My brother wants to buy my 308 from me for some reason and I was looking at the American gen 2 this morning as a replacement.

Went yest to sight in my new Ruger Gen 2 in .308 and it will not pull the spent case from the chamber. Ruger says to return it to them or they will send extractor and parts to me. I removed the extractor and freed it up and reinstalled but it still leaves the case in the chamber. I’m sure Ruger will make it right but it does suck to have to return the brand new gun to the factory before the first use.

Id let them send the extractor before sending it back. They are easy to change. Youve got the paper trail started so if it doesnt fix it, theyll already know you had a problem.
