Nice looking wood grain in that Garand stock.

.gov still has millions of M-14 mags. It's a shame they
won't release some to the public. I understand they're still in service, but come on.

Maybe if a 2A friendly candidate get elected next year things will change. Hell, S. Korea has millions of Garands and Carbines they tried to import. It was shot down by our current .gov.

How much of a legal hassle and gunsmithing would be involved to convert it to a selective full auto function?

Not possible. Such a firearm would have to have been registered back in 1986. Unless you have a license as a manufacturer there is no legal way to convert these M1A's.

You know your Class III, sir.

Too bad HK mags won't fit your M-1. Those are still dirt cheap.

I bought about 50 HK mags for about 2 dollars apiece when I had my PTR91.

It was a great rifle.

Oh and frick Katrina with a rusty strand of barbed wire. I lost my collection.

Gun Control Act of 1968 as amended in in 1986 by the Firearm Owners Protection Act. It closed the registration of any machine gun or select-fire weapon (as required by the 1934 National Firearms Act) made after the effective date of the FOPA (May 19, 1986). So basically I'd need a time machine to make my M1A into a select-fire variant or become a FFL with the proper SOT classification. No other legal way of doing it.

That Garand is almost exactly 60 years older than the M1A. Now I just have to find a nice M1 Carbine and a M1903A3 to complete the set.
Sarco has some 1903A3's for a decent price

If I'd known that place was only about an hour up the road from me I'd have that M1903 today too. Have it tomorrow if they weren't closed Sundays. Guess I know what I'm buying early next month.

Sweet rifle! I love that Garand-M1A comparison - it's a good visual of the evolution of the rifle. I can't wait to get a Socom 16 one day. They are tough as nails.

how hard are the stripper clips (1903) and the enbloc clips (garand) to find?
are commercial loads OK for these rifles or do you have to find surplus?

I saw midway had a bunch of garand surplus on clips a while back but that was rare from what I gather

The 03 stripper clips have never been all that plentiful. I think I have about 10 or so for my '03.

En-bloc clips for the Garand were dirt cheap 20 years ago. I remember seeing them back then for less than a quarter apiece. Nowadays, though, you can expect to pay a buck apiece for them. Hard to believe, I'm sure hundreds of millions of them must have been made.

Clames is correct. You really wouldn't want one in full auto anyway, from what I have read.

The M-14 was not at its best in full auto mode, it was fairly uncontrollable according to many reports from the battlefield. It's much better as a semi-auto.

I got a pack of 10 enbloc clips from Amazon. New manufacture but properly made and finished.

Most commercial loads are too hot for Garands. Federal and Hornady do offer M1 Garand specific loads but they are not often in stock anywhere. I handload so I can make as much as I need, my Garand doesn't see much range time anyway. M1A has a self-adjusting gas system but you still have to be mindful of what you feed it.

Sorry, I meant Garand en-bloc clips. Proof-reading fail.

When you get that 03 Springfield and take it for a ride at the local range you will shiver like Halle Berry just stuck her tongue in your ear.
