The owner of the property (Williams) is not planning on renewing their lease on the short canal they ties into the main channel that access the intracoastal, and will also be gating off all of the other marsh canals off of the main channel.
This will affect access to Bayou Copasaw, Turtle Bayou, Orange Grove, Bayou Penchant, etc for thousands of anglers and hunters.
Spent a good chunk of my childhood and adult life launching there and fishing those areas with my Dad and now my sons. Greed knows no bounds.

The owner of the marina had leased a section of property and water way that leads to his marina for nearly 30 years.
Williams, the company that owns the section of canal, has decided not to lease it any longer, thus rendering the marina useless.
This affects more than just the marina owner, there are also swamp tours and other businesses operate from that marina.

Ah, gotcha. OP had me confused with his post.
I’m confident someone will open another marina in the vicinity. Or the landowner will relent and allow access. JMO.

Sounds like the corporation owning the land the marina is on has refused to renew the lease for the marina essentially restricting access to the marsh and gating off canals as well

OP could be reworded a little better.
Does this happen often to Marinas?

Not accurate. Williams owns the waterway and water bottoms of the canal that leads from the marina. Marina owner owns tha land AT the marina.
Problem is, Williams is gating the the canal going from the marina, so if you launch there you will not be able to leave the marina.

Call your reps and tell them to support HR391

Good Morning All,
Recently there have been many rumors circulating about the situation here. I decided this morning would be a great time to address this issue after all the Facebook post last night concerning this matter.
We (Bob's Bayou Black Marina Inc.) have been in a 30 year lease agreement with Williams Land Company to lease the piece of waterway that allows us access to enter the "shell barge canal". This small piece of property starts a little ways after the no wake signs and ends once you hit the "shell barge canal".
Our lease was set to expire this year on January 31st 2018. After several months of conversing with Williams Land Company and their VP Rudy Sparks, Williams has allowed us to have a year extension on the lease agreement until March 1st, 2019. At that time Williams plans to put a gate or floating structure to end all access out of Bob's into the Shell Barge Canal/Intracoastal waterway.
We are in shock and highly upset by this decision as this will end a small family business that Bob grew and maintained himself everyday for 25+ years to allow others to easily do the things they and he loved to do.
This won't just affect us here at Bob's, soon there won't be any waterways to fish. Several others canals back here are currently being gated off and will continue to be gated off. Get on the phone today and contact your State Rep.
Anything the fishing, hunting, and the South LA working community can do to help would be appreciated. I will also be posting a copy of the current bill HB 391 in place to end some of this madness that has been created over the years by the landowners.
Thanks!

Sorry for your situation, I feared things like this would start to happen.
Link to help you find your legislator and sample letter to send. For this specific issue I would include some verbiage about House Bill 391. Calling is even better!!!
Speak Up
This is our best chance to date of helping end some of this controversy. This bill has a long way to go, but getting it out of the House Civil Law Committee can be a huge win and the best way to do that is to make sure THEY know it has massive support from us voters.
Good luck Capt ST

I saw their post on Facebook earlier. This is sad. My brother fishes Bayou Black a lot more than I do and he is not happy at all.
