Kamado Joe > Primo > BGE > Knockoffs. KJ offers the most accessories up front. BGE kills you with add-on cost of theirs. I will say that BGE has stepped up and made some improvements (because KJ was killing them in this department). Primos are solid. I would stay away from the Visions of the world.
If you are new to it, and want to get the hang of things go get you an Akorn from Lowe's. My local store has them for $250 right now, and they are awesome little cookers.
ETA: Plus, KJ's are better looking

What a shitty salesman.
Does a car salesman ever tell you that you only need the XL and not the King Ranch?

BGE is awesome. I can’t think of any negatives.
My dad had the original Komado for over twenty years. He gave me and all my brothers a BGE one year for Christmas about 15 years ago. In that time, I've replaced the gasket once. I need to replace the hinge/spring assembly and the fire ring now, but that's it.
I tell people all the time that it will change your life. You think what you've been cooking is good, but it doesn't compare to the BGE.

Get the knock off for less than half the price. Cooks just as good

Wish I had gone XL instead of L. Salesman practically wouldn't sell me the XL saying all I needed was the L. I will probably move it to my camp and get an XL next time.
I have a L as well.
Have you tried the DIY raised grill? I bought the cast iron grate and used my stainless one as a raised grill to double the surface. Depending on what you cooking of course...
BGE RAISED GRILL

Completely got away from gas grill. Building our new house with the outdoor kitchen , I didn t put a gas grill only a place for my “egg”
Co-worker was asking me about a grill a few years ago. He was dead set on getting a gas grill for his outdoor kitchen. I begged him to buy an BGE first before he bought the gas grill to try it and see if he needed a gas grill.
Well he didn't listen.
About 3 months later he came to me (after he had his BGE for a couple of months) and admitted that he should have listened because he loved the BGE and never even thinks about using the gas grill anymore.

I went with a BGE XL and have no regrets. I’ve used it on short hot cooks and it can get crazy hot as well as smoking brisket at 225 overnight with great success. Doesn’t use quite as much lump as I thought it might since you can choke it off once you’re finished. Mine came with a nest and plate setter for free so make sure to look around for deals.

100% would recommend. I've had mine for about 12 years. easily best money i've ever spent for a grill. Only thing i've done is replace gasket.
My friend whom uses his multiple times a week and has for 15+ years recently had the firebox in his start breaking down and had a huge crack in it.
Support simply asked for a photo of the failing firebox and shipped a new one.

That's a dramatic overstatement of the differences between KJ and BGE. They're not much different. Never understood the brand loyalty with the ceramics.
I've had a BGE for about 10 years and been very happy with it. I've had to replace things, but BGE is easy to deal with. Basically just bring your broken piece (ceramics) into your local dealer and they give you a new one right there. Agreed that warranty is very important because I have replaced three ceramic pieces on mine over the years.
The BGE accessories are very expensive/overpriced, so I never bought them. I haven't bought anything new for my egg in years but I always ordered from www.ceramicgrillstore.com. They've got all the same accessories, but way more reasonable prices.
The big three ceramic cookers are all great. It really just depends whether you like the red/stainless of the KJ (which I do), the BGE, or the oval shape of the Primo.

get the primo like others said, I use mine all the time to smoke ribs chicken and cook pizzas. its been a great pit and I have the junior and it has plenty of room to cook unlike the eggs in same size.

Same situation here. I was building and was all set for a big ol gasser. Then another TDer had a hookup to get some Primos discounted and after talking to him I got one to try.
After one cook I changed the ODK plans to include the Primo. Then after a few more cooks and smokes I omitted the gasser all together and got another Primo from the same hookup. Have not regretted not having a gasser at all.

Have the Primo XL, and it is fantastic. Size has it's advantages and disadvantages.......(that's what she said.
)
I think I may buy a knock off brand in a smaller version. If you want to fire up the grill to cook a couple of pork-chops or steaks......you need a fair amount of charcoal to heat up the bigger XL grill to get the temps you need for maintaining heat.
I love the larger grill for smoking because you can get the temp where you want it and regulate it without having to open it frequently to add coal/wood for smoking.

What about that statement is "dramatic" or overstated? It's a fact that KJ offers more up front, and BGE charges a lot for their accessories. You said so yourself...

And I actually gave credit to BGE for making improvements. They're new stuff looks legit. I just prefer the KJ. If nothing else, the hinge system on the Big Joe is leagues ahead of everyone.

Another vote for the Kamado Joe

To further my point, this is the KJ "Divide & Conquer" system that comes standard on their rigs and has since day 1:
This is the BGE "Eggspander":
Pssst... (It's the same thing but BGE just came out with it last year because they were losing sales to the competition)
KJ: Comes with grill
BGE: Costs $129 - $270

Another vote for the large BGE and Partyq for long smokes/cooks from me. 100% satisfied. The large BGE is enough to host a small party. I think the XL BGE is overkill u less you are constantly feeding 10+ people.

Do the pit boss's at Costco have warranties? I thought that was part of what you pay for with the BGE or KJ

You are right. I misquoted your original post and I meant to quote the XXX>XXX>XXX part. In any event, it doesn't matter much ha. The new BGE hinge design is much better than their older one. I just wish my BGE had stainless hardware.
