I want to try and find or win a tag to go trophy buck hunting.
Tired of these medium sized swamp donkeys. I wanna kill something like this:

See the snow on the ground in the picture? That's a good hint...

South Texas has some big horned bucks, but it seems like up North they are all big. Horns and body. I think they get that big to survive the cold weather.

Iowa- forget this state, you wont get a tag for three years depending on the zone.

Kansas- this is where you want to go. Very easy to get a tag.

Texas- especially south texas, not quite as big as the above two states but they have many deer.

Kentucky doesn't get all the publicity but it's loaded with B&C bucks and the prices aren't outrageous yet

Western Kentucky-especially along the Mississippi River, turns out monsters every year.

If you bow hunt, have a muzzleloader, or deer hunt with a shotgun, I really think the Eastern Shore of Maryland is SUPER underrated. Tons of corn and agriculture around and they are big bodied deer (200lbs+). My issue is that most counties don't have a rifle season, and in the counties that do, it lasts about 45 minutes. That said, its cheap, farmers are cool with access, and even guided trips are cheap compared to out west. You can fly into 4 different airports and be in the stand within 90 minutes. Google "Big Maryland Deer".

Its crazy because Virginia doesn't have this quality of a herd, despite the close prox. Must just be better genes on that side of the Chesapeake.

That's why they have big deer. If southern states would back off the long gun seasons the buck quality would increase greatly.

Got any hook ups over in Maryland? You've peeked my interest and Google appears you're correct.

The surface area to mass re: heating and cooling effect.

I went through an exhibit on this at the Perot museum that did an excellent job of explaining this.
My kids were like, "Dad, come look at this Giraffe heart," and I was like, "No, I'm learning why its easy to miss South Texas deer."

Call Greg Simons at Wildlife Systems. He has outfitted for 20 years and has properties all over Texas. If he doesn't have exactly what you want, he has been in the business long enough that he knows outfitters all over the country. I have hunted with him numerous times. Quality outfit all around. I trust that he would lead you in a positive direction.

I live in upstate NY - I regularly see deer like this all along the highway. See below, not the best quality pic but one I recently got (while running) of two nice size bucks in a tall field with just their heads sticking out.

As mentioned previously - take note of the snow. I won't have deer season for another month but when I do it could be a 1ft blanket of snow on the ground.

My boss has killed several at Wilderness Whitetails.

His picture is in several of the photo galleries on their website, but I won't tell you which one is him.

Check this one out from their trophy gallery
