Seem to remember a similar post a couple years back but couldn't locate it.

In particular a coon hunter listed a mega-extreme headlamp as his favorite. However I can't remember what it was. Not that it has to be this one. Looking for something to light up the night when tracking a bow stuck deer?

And it definitely wasn't your everyday backpacking or Walmart light.

I have several olights and they’re great.

Probably was me. I use a Kelly K-Light Beakon for coon hunting. It is stupid bright, and stupid expensive. Mine is 10 years old and still going strong and has been well worth the price IMO. Have used it extensively for coon hunting, frogging, tracking deer, running the boat at night, etc. Its like a lightweight Q beam.

Huntsmart.com has a great selection of coon lights spanning a good price range. Their ~$150 lights which are not the best coon hunting lights will still blow any normal AA battery headlamp well out the water. They are much brighter with much longer run times.

No problem.

Check out the huntsmart.com lights. I do think those are a little better value.

Whatever you get, get one that has the battery on the cap. Having a belt of batteries is a pain in the arse. With the cap, you throw it on and go.

Any of these in particular.

Especially since the beacon/beakon seem nowhere to be found... however haven't look that hard yet.

Mines almost 10 years old so they probably don't make it anymore. The new stuff is probably better anyway. Look their number up and call them, they are super nice people and will be able to steer you right.

A friend of mine has this one and its not quite as bright as mine but has a wider beam. Not as good for running the boat but better for walking/tracking

I use the pelican twist on headlight for work.

I bought one for deer hunting.

Bright, tough, batteries last a long time as well. I like the twist feature if you have gloves on it can be hard to mash a button.

If anyone is looking for a solid, USB rechargeable headlamp I would recommend the Klein models. I've had Coast, DeWalt, Milwaukee, cheap Energizers, and Petzl and none of them lasted long before falling apart or had terrible self-discharge rates.

Probably not what you are looking for but I got this Petzl (or the older version) 6-7 years ago and it’s still going strong for me.

Because of the work we do, my techs are always using headlamps. We’ve probably used 30-40 different models over the years. Hands down, no questions asked the Coast HL8R is the best all around I’ve used. I got 20 of these about a year ago for all my guys and everybody loves them, comfy, and very versatile. I think everyone still has theirs, which is AMAZING! Techs are always losing hand tools and stuff. They are solid and well made, we haven’t had any issues. I’ve got one myself and I use it all the time for work and recreation. My favorite parts are the battery options and it is it’s dual beam so it can flood and focus at the same time. It’s super bright and the light stays bright for a long distance. (800 lm at 700ft and fully adjustable beam)

Here’s a link to it on Amazon:

Fenix makes really good lights for reasonable prices.. They're cool too because several of them are rechargeable OR you can run the CR123A batteries in them.. Plenty bright enough to track a deer after dark!
