Bass Fishing Rod and Reels

Just wanted to see what everyone here likes to use. I’ll go first. I really like the Daiwa tatula 100 for baitcasting with a mixture of rods and fire spinning I like the daiwa revros with whatever I can get on sale but my favorite currently is the shimano St. Claurus.
Here’s the kicker, last year I went to the elite series tournament on Guntersville and the winner used a brand that doesn’t have much marketing, it’s called Piscifun. Well after he won last year I decided it would try so I got the piscifun phantom reel and the piscifun serpent rod. These two are very cheap and I didn’t have much hope but if a pro angler uses the stuff it can’t be that bad and let me tell you, there are not many better than the 70 dollar phantom. I still like my diawas the most but I can get 2 piscifun setups for the price of one daiwa.
Any other crazy stories out there?
One more thing, today I went to bass pro to get new a new combo for the year and noticed that bass pro has a new pro qualifier series. I was going to try the new rod since the reviews seem good and it’s100 bucks. Well the Worker said you should get the pro qualifier combo right now because you get the new rod (100) and the new reel (100) for 129. So all in all I’m getting a new reel for 30 dollars. He told me the prices would be going up soon and sure enough the bass pro website already has the combo at 169, so I’m thinking about going to get another pro qualifier combo tomorrow for 129. The worker also said what must know that the bait casters are made by lews and the better spinning pro qualifiers are daiwa, which I didn’t know.

My favorite rod is a kistler. My favorite reel is a shimano curado dc. I have 3 dc’s on helium 3 rods and I love them. I also have a kistler punch rod and kistler heavy cover I throw jigs on or double as a punch rod. I only have a few more rods to change out to kistlers and I’ll have all kistler and hopefully be happy. I like my daiwas and my revo premier reels too. But none compare to my dc’s

I predominantly use Daiwa Tatula Elite rods and reels. The reels are best in class for casting distance in a baitcaster. AGS guides on some Rod models really pushes the price point up…I have the 7’4 Ish Monroe Frog Rod (heavy, fast). I use it primarily for bottom contact m, namely jigs, where the sensitivity is importance.

I fish with some guys that swear by the DCs but I just can’t see it. I don’t have an issue with backlashes and I don’t see the price range for those bc while they are smooth, I think others are just as smooth or smoother for cheaper. Could you tell me exactly what you like about them above the others? I’m looking for smoothness, low profile, dependability and a few other things. I almost hit the SLX dc today but I couldn’t go against what I really like in the daiwa tatula.
Thanks

I’m reminded of the old racing adage.
“How fast can we go?”
“How much money do you have?”

I have Curados on Castaway rods for my fresh water setups. My crappie tackle is pfleuger President XT reels on several different rods, have a falcon, two bass pro carbonlites and a St. Croix.
I’m a big fan of Castaway, have several fresh/salt rods. Never had a problem.

I like Abu Garcia stx reels and Veritas rods. Rods are inexpensive and I know what I'm getting.

I'm not really sure which reel I would consider my favorite. My two most used ones would be one of my two Revos that I use for weightless lures, and my Lews Tournament Pro that I use for Texas rigs. But just because those are my most used, doesn't necessarily mean they are my favorite. I have a couple Curados that I really like, as well.
I'm going to be getting all of my reels cleaned this week, its been a couple years, so they could use a good cleaning. And I just dropped my boat of to have the motor serviced, so I'm gonna be dropping a few hundred between all of that, but then I'll be sittin' in high cotton!

Reels: Daiwa and Shimano with Daiwa holding a slight edge.
Rods: I mix it up based upon feel/action. I now have a mix of Loomis, Major Craft, Alex, Daiwa, St. Croix and Castaway. I am not brand loyal at all on rods.

Had 2 and the tips broke rather easy. I like the action but they break to easy for me.
I have 3 DC curado and Falcon rods. I like the setups.

I feel like it's a batch issue. I hear that alot. I had a couple break but to my own doing.
Biggest disappointment was 2 Kistler LTA that broke on me .
They all break and another reason I like 80 dollar rods.

I have mostly Lews and Abu Garcia reels. Also have some Daiwa, Quantum, and BPS sprinkled in. Not really brand loyal. I just like to find what’s comfortable and works for my needs.
Same with rods. I have Duckett, Denali, BPS, H2O, Lews, All Star…. Probably some other brands I can’t think of. It all depends on the application and comfort.

I have mostly inexpensive rods except for my one Denali and one Quantum, which weren't all that expensive either. I have two Berkley, one Revo that was part of a combo, one Lews American Hero that was part of a combo, and one good ole Ugly Stik. I have an eighth, but I can't remember what it is, so its obviously not high dollar.

I had a 7’ M F. That was the best squarebill rod I ever owned. Until I accidentally slammed a compartment lid on it.
I need to buy another one.

I just brought my boat in to get serviced, and I'm going to be cleaning all my reels and restringing them this week. The itch is real right now lol

When I read gear posts on the OB, I realize how some of my gear is inadequate and needs replaced.
And then I pick up a thing or 2 and my wife asks "how come you didn't get me one also" It never ends.

I mostly use daiwa tatula reels. Most are the sv models with an elite and others mixed in. For rods, I have fallen in love with the exprides I have so trying to get more of those and thin out some of the other brands I have. I have a few revos that have served me well that I still use.

I have a several "good" reels but also a Kast King, which is probably made in the same factory as the Piscifun stuff. Decent reel for 50 bucks, fish don't know the difference.
