How hard, once it's pinned and welded, is it to reverse,
Very hard, you’d be better off buying a new 16” barrel.
Ok, thanks.
Was curious about that, because I remember a small Beretta pistol recently hitting the import/surplus market. 22lr pistol, too small for import laws, but they bypassed that by pinning and welding a fake suppressor onto the threaded barrel. People were posting on how easy it was to remove that.
Found it, Beretta M71.

How steady of a hand do you have? The weld has to be ground out so the pin can be removed. I've done two using an angle grinder, next time I'm using a dremel.

it'll be alot worse if you had a 10" AR in your backpack with a loaded drum.

I know it is. I was making a point that the above handgun is legal just as a 10” AR. BUT a 10” AR with a drum is more deadly than a 5-6 shooter revolver.

be enough to pull you back to legal safety, for the time being? That's a 6" flash hider, I'm guessing pinned and welded to a 10+ inch barrel, you're now no longer in possession of a SBR. Because the barrel is no longer short... right?
Wouldn’t it just be easier to remove the brace?

Slapping a 16” upper on your AR pistol braced AR will be legal right ?

But you would have to destroy the short barrel unless you have a legal pistol lower to put it on.

Bill passed the House this afternoon.

The rule would also require that individuals who have pistols with stabilizing braces register them with the government by May 31, 2023.

Actually you can keep it but it has be stored offsite from any potential lowers it could be put into to avoid "Constructive intent". A very vague term the ATF likes to use to ensnare people.
However they've established a precedent that if you store it off site and away from any potential illegal, "intentional" SBR construction pieces you should be good.

I know some think its bending the knee to take the amnesty deal to SBR them but planed to SBR them anyway (already have NFA stuff). I just didn't feel like wasting the $ on stamps since they were all braced. So I took advantage of the situation and just got back my 11 form 1s and saved me 2,200 bucks. Took 169 days.

If you're already in their system for other NFA stuff, I get it.
Otherwise, frick them.

Thank you for your service. Glad someone got something for this stupid deal.

So far a whole lot of folks have braced pistols that are now off limits for the ATF. It's going to look stupid applying for SBR stamps once the courts have ruled. Stupid anyway given the arguments being made by the DOJ and ATF in their briefs and these people imagining that a piece of paper is going to be honored by the ATF going forward after another rule change or two.
