I have a couple last minute spots open for a week long trip to Alberta if anyone is interested. It's a few guys from the OB going. Dates are October 14th-22nd.

If you're interested, email is downsouthdave84 at gmail.com

Flying. I think no colors may be driving, he's a glutton for punishment.

ETA: tickets are only $500 out of nola, give or take.

Just curious, I'm out, we are heading to Kansas for the pheasant opener the beginning of November.

I'm driving for a handful of reasons.

1) we need a vehicle up there

2) 6 guys have a lot of stuff to carry around

3) I want to hunt a couple of places on the way there or on the way back.

Having said all of that, I might end up flying to Rapid City SD and renting a truck and driving up from there.

Completely off the subject (sort of)...I know the transportation of firearms via air carrier rules are set pretty good and easy to understand...but what about transporting them via car/truck across borders? What's the process?

FYI, the drought in ND, SD and Montana messed up the pheasants bad, that is why we have shifted south to Kansas to hunt this year. The drought was at the worst time for birds, crp was grazed and cut during nesting season and most crops didn't come up and the bug hatch was limited with the drought, and that is what the chicks need to grow.

You just fill out a form online. Then give the border guy a copy of the form when you roll through the gate. Nothing to it. You can't have had a felony or a DUI. Other than that, you're good.

Cool. Worst thing I've ever had is a speeding ticket..and I'm 45 years sober..so no drinking there.

Thanks for the heads up. If me and the wife ever get to do that retirement thing....Hunting in Canada is on the list.

Are these guided hunts or finding birds, asking farmer to hunt, and hunting?

It's private land. A lot of family land and access to other lands in the area.

It's a lot of do it yourself, but land won't be an issue.

You can email me for details.

I had every intention to make this hunt but a new little one threw a wrench in the works.

I'll vouch for Dave. He's good people and I'm sure it'll be a great trip.

Went last year to Viking, Alberta in September. It's about an hour north of Edmonton. Crushed the birds.

I will be in Saskatchewan the week before y'all, doing the same type of trip. Will be a crew of 7 of us driving up from NWLA. We're going the DIY route as well, a few in the group have been before but this is my first time. Hopefully will have some good reports on the ride back.

Even with the drought, more pheasants will be killed in SD than in KS. While the drought is bad, I've gotten reports in my bird hunting network of decent numbers of prairie grouse in the hard hit regions of MT. Pheasants are being encountered on these hunts as well.
