My 13 yr old wants one...but damn they look a little too real for comfort. The slide is a blowback slide and the CO2 drops out in the magazine. I think it would desensitize my son to the dangers of a real pistol..don’t want to be a curmudgeon though. He’s asked for a BB gun for his birthday...and this is what he’s come up with:

Kinda spooky.

Put a bozo nose over the muzzle and maybe, just maybe he won't get killed by a cop or the guy manning your neighborhood watch.

I'd personally get the kid a traditional BB gun (rifle style). He can't shoot black birds or squirrels with the one you posted. The only reason I see for buying a child a firearm is for them to learn to hunt with it. I just had my grandfather's old Benjamin restored for my future children to learn with before allowing them anything bigger. Once they're older, a handgun may be a possibility depending on how responsible they are.

A BB gun with a three inch barrel can’t shoot for shite. The physics just doesn’t seem right.

They make a rifled pellet gun too, just looks a little fidgety.

Yeah-I think I'd stay away from giving my child that BB gun. Way too many "what if's" to justify giving that to him.

What would you think/do if someone pointed that thing at you or you saw them carrying it around your home/family? Now ask what you think a dumbass with an itchy trigger finger would do.

There's your answer.

13 is exactly the wrong age for something like that IMO but I guess it depends on the kid.

I was a good kid and very good about guns, and my old man wouldn't have let me have that in his house.

Looks too real. Could get in to bad trouble with that nowadays. Get him a red ryder.

At age 13 I had real guns. I don't see the issue here.

Teach him to shoot cans in the yard.

Seems like a good teaching moment. I was less than half his age when I started shooting. I wouldn't let him run the neighborhood with it, but there should be no issues with him having it around your house.

Nothing wrong with airsoft. The Japanese companies make the best ones. Look on Red Wolf Airsoft.

Where will he be shooting it OP? I was originally going to say I’d let him have it but it goes with the other real guns and he only gets it with you around.

But airsoft is a good point. Kids run around with those everywhere.

I’d worry about a kid running around the neighborhood with it, neighbor calling cops, and kids have real looking guns. But as I said, it happens all the time with airsoft. So...I don’t know...

Honestly, maybe have that talk with your son?

At 13 a pellet rifle is the correct answer or a real gun, I got a 12 ga semiautomatic when I was 13 but I'd been hunting with a single shot since 9.

Are those accurate to shoot at a target? Can't think of another good use for a BB pistol. If he wants something for target shooting, I'd get a 22, and start taking him. If it's for running around the neighborhood, I'd get a BB rifle. We had our own single shot shotguns at 10 years old, and I had a 22 rifle, and a 12 gauge pump, in high school.. I never owned a pistol until I was grown, but we never shot targets.

Unless you're out in the country, I'd think any BB gun needs to look like a BB gun.

Cops in the next town over from mine, killed a guy a while back, who had something similar.
