Hearing about it on social media but no news articles. Supposedly a few houses down from the Shell station on Main Street.

From Facebook. I think Main near Gisele St. Looks like it was already tagged.

This happened Thursday or Friday from what I hear. It was opposite the lake about 3-4 houses east of the Shell station on False River drive.
From what I understand, the bear got out of the tree and ran off before Wildlife and Fisheries could get there. So it’s probably still around NR somewhere.

About a year or so ago I was turning on Hwy 1 from 190 and the traffic was stopped. LDWF was there and a big Black Bear was 20 yds from my truck off the side of the hwy. They are definitely in the area.

Yes, probably a tracking collar.

Since the bear has a tracking collar, why couldn't the tracking agency at least alert people, or maybe even attempt to divert the bear from populated areas?

Not trolling, or suggesting anything drastic. If the Louisiana black bears' population is expanding and therefore their habitat, then educating the human population re how to discourage encounters seems like a good idea.
And if encouraging simple changes in human behavior, like adopting studier trash cans, not feeding pets outdoors could keep the bears from becoming conditioned to living among humans that seems like a worthwhile endeavour of an agency like LDFW.
Maybe I misunderstand how tracking collars work?

Yeah. They just need to plug the 5G enabled GPS device into the bear’s ECM for real time tracking updates.

Bears are common in St Francisville area now....

Of course they're in the area. Bears are all over the spillway and that's not very far off
