Had a picture taken with a dead fish and let it go? Didn't have the license or what?

I believe there’s been bigger in the GOM, but electrics don’t count in the record books.

I’m not really good at eye balling weights, but maybe 300lbs or am I way off here?

Came up dead? How did it go from fighting them for that long to coming in dead

ETA - sounds like it was a typo... looks like maybe they meant to put tired

Sounds about right, maybe 350-400. Hard to tell from the pic.

It's dead. They wouldn't have gaffed it otherwise. Very common for big tuna to come up dead. They fight until they kill themselves. That can take a long time, but once it happens you still have to pull up the weight of the fish against current and the last thing it's gonna try to do is dive as deep as it can to hit colder water beneath the thermocline.

I didn’t realize there was a quota for Bluefins until a few weeks ago. Apparently it can be as little as 6 fish a season. I also didn’t know you couldn’t specifically target them in the gulf.

I heard an outfitter in Venice got slapped with some pretty large fines after they caught some earlier this year

Came up dead and let it go.

And they did nothing but push electric buttons.
Screw those guys.
At least they got their stupid picture.

That fish is at least 80" long and possibly a good bit more than that. Its a minimum 300lb fish, and 600 isnt out of the question.
