Thinking about getting one but know nothing about what’s out there. Looking for recommendations and precautions. Maybe best site to get one.

Was looking at them yesterday because I also want one.
They are ridiculously expensive for a quality knife though.
Microtech ultra tech seems to be one everyone loves.
Benchmade makes some quality OTFs but they are proud in their pricing

OTF double action knives are great fun, but really impractical for your traditional knife duties, particularly the double edged, dagger style which are so popular. If you need a dagger, you'd almost always be better off carrying a fixed-blade dagger.
If you need a single edge knife as a tool, you're better off with a Benchmade (manual) Axis or SOG Arc lock knife as that is going to be one handed, ambidextrous, few legality questions (other than blade length), etc. If you want the same sort of knife, but automatic opening, you can actually get the Benchmade Axis in automatic, otherwise, I would point you to either Pro-Tech or even some of the less expensive (still pretty good, though) Boker autos.
Now, if you are hell bent on an OTF, then I recommend the Micro Tech or Benchmade OTFs - they have the most experience and best reputation for these knives. Either will be very expensive.

Carry a Microtech Ultratech on occasion. Doesn't need anything special beyond any other knife I carry. Got mine at a shop in Birmingham, AL.

I have 2 microtechs that I carry pretty regularly. One is a double edge that was given to me as a gift that I don't carry as much.

I laugh but have bought several cheap ones to test quality. Not the best, but pretty decent. At least as good as knock off Chinese coolers.

I have a CobraTec. Least expensive of the 3. Made in Texas.

I have a cobra tec as well. I have the smaller one so its an easy carry in my pocket. Its cool but really no advantage over my other knives.

I have a few.
Benchmade Infidel - Not crazy about where the mechanism is on this one
Microtech Ultratech - Love this knife but don't carry it as much as the Phaeton. Not sure why.
Benchmade Phaeton - this is the newest one. I carry this one all the time. Like the weight of it and the mechanism is on the side like the Microtech

I carried a BenchMade mini infidel. I loved it. After about 2 years it started sticking. Send it back for service and it come back like new. I really like it. It does seem expensive for what it is.

Everything he said. My son picked up a couple of Infidel knock-offs for the heck of it and gave me one and I have no idea what I'd use it for. I've never carried it and I don't think I've even ever used it beyond the first day of playing around with it.

Microtech & Heretic (Marfione Jr.) are head and shoulders above anything else out there. The difference in mechanisms between these and say, Benchmade is insane. Makes an Infidel feel like a toy.

I have a few Microtech OTF. The exocet is in my EDC rotation. I carry the Ultratech on occasion. They are both great knives.

Everything already posted is legit and you’re going to pay for a quality OTF. I’m only adding this because they haven’t been mentioned yet, I’ve had several Ravencrest Tacticals and enjoyed all of them, they’re still expensive but not as much as some others. You can also build your own (blade style, colors) if that’s what you’re looking for. They’ve got several different models
ETA: These are my go to depending on which way the wind is blowing (obviously only one OTF in the bunch). The ZT has an assisted opening and is a workhorse. The Buck speaks for itself and the Ka-bar mock 110 has been great especially for only $15. The TOPS fixed blade is super lite and scary sharp. The OTF has been great for what it is, pretty heavy though

My son save up some money and wanted me to order a "Lightning" OTF for him from grindworx. While I was placing the order I threw one in the cart for myself to play around with. I ended up really liking the knife. It's like a pointy stabby fidget spinner. As much as I love my axis lock Benchmade the one button OTF action is dead simple and fast and safe to deploy. I EDC'd it for a while but in the end the extra bulk of the OTF design eventually had me leaving it at home for other knives. I'll still carry it at times.

If I get another, I'm getting one without the glass breaker. That thing scratches my hand going in my pocket.

Me too. It’s aluminum and heavy. D2 tool steel blade. It’s well built, not as flashy as a microtech.

I got a Microtech Ultratech about a week ago and have been carrying it ever since. I like how thin and sleek it is in my pocket. I was previously carrying my Spyderco in my left pocket because it took up too much space in my right pocket and it was hard to get my phone in and out. Now I have the ultratech in my right pocket and have no issues with getting to my phone and I can carry my Leatherman in my left pocket now in addition.

I have a microtec ultra. Have had it for about three years. Lived mainly in Texas during that time and left it there when I would go home to La. then, they made them legal:). Actually, I have three, but I carry my purple tanto blade as my edc.
I don’t get people that say you can’t use them like a regular knife. I use and carry mine every day. Perfect example. Got a 40 pound bag of corn balanced on the feeder with one hand, it’s nothing to slip it out of the pocket, pop it out and slice the bag. They hold an edge really well, are well made and are easy to use.

We have one real Microtech in the mix, my son's Spartan. It's nice, and quite pricey.
I did a couple buys from dhgate, before the pandemic hit. Got a couple clones; just wanted to see what they were like for the price.
The quality... these are definitely heavier than the 'real deal', but really not that bad. Have a couple "Benchmade Infidel" and "Microtech Scarab" knives, and an "Extrema Ratio" (not an OTF, but another pricey knife). All came in official-looking fake boxes. All cost approximately one tenth of the real thing. All are quite functional, operate very slickly, and function just fine for cutting cords and the like. I'd say they are probably way closer to 75% of the quality, for 10% of the price- the Infidels in particular are nice. I showed one to someone at a store, and he didn't know it was fake.
The Scarabs have some blade-sing, I wouldn't mind dampening that. On the other hand, I chose the blades that weren't daggers, so they are quite useful.
Now to clarify, I know mine are fake and wouldn't try to pass it off as real in a sale. I just found them interesting gizmos, and didn't want to drop a couple hundred on them.
