So if they're being charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon...seems like those kids would've had legal ground to defend themselves.
I only plan on ever using my gun if I think my life is in danger, law be damned one way or the other

I think I would have tied their boat off and took them for a ride. Flipped them off the job boat and then pull its plug.

Louisiana has castle or stand your ground laws. These guys were aggressively bumping this kid's boat in a place he was legally allowed to be. Wouldn't they be allowed to use force to defend their castle?
That is debatable, what is not debatable is the return fire would have been absolutely justified.
Introducing a gun unnecessarily into a heated argument can go many ways, and who the hell wants to kill someone over a few bumps from a boat.

You’re right but they had to total out the boat since the hull repair voided out the warranty so the monetary damage done probably will not allow them to plead down to a misdemeanor.

not necessarily, several conditions have to be met.

Trash charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon. Sounds like a person would be justified in defending themselves from this action, no?

You mean, could they start their boat and leave? Of course they could. At no time was their life in danger. I wouldn't want to test the courts by shooting someone over this. You may come out okay, minus a lot of money in lawyer fees, or you may end up Bubba's bitch! Or you could even end up dead if they are armed also. What's wrong with you dumb asses?

Hold on there chief. They were being rammed by a boat. If these two guys were going demolition derby in a car, would you have the same opinion? Not that I disagree with you about pulling a gun and shooting the guys.
That being said these two pieces of trash should rot in prison.

should have grasped the bow line and taken them for a tow

Wife, kids, or grandkids I would have shot him in the shoulder to stop him from operating his boat which would stop the threat.
By myself, nephew, or friends I would have backed away from his boat. If he followed me I would have restrained him until the game wardens showed up.

This thread is classic.
By the way, I highly doubt that shooting a few holes in the boat would sink it as a large percentage have said. This comes from a long history of fishing in boats w a lot of holes in em as s younger fella
Also. Just leave and call police. No one needs to be sitting in court because you smoked a guy over a dink bass
You encounter assholes in life. You pity them and move on.

C'mon man. Bumped and pushed by a boat is more like it. The guy in the back of the bass boat was able to put his foot against the jon boat and never even lost his balance. If I'm coming at you "demolition derby" style, you're NOT going to hold me off with your foot and you WILL be knocked off your feet. I promise.
People die in this country ever day because their pride and their ego won't allow them to remove themselves from a potentially lethal situation. I agree, the rednecks in the jon boat ought to be fined or do time. But this situation obviously started with a verbal confrontation, which escalated to a mooning, and then a "ramming". The guys in the bass boat should have seen this coming and just cranked up and left. That's the way a mature sane person handles a situation like this.
If you feel you just have to fish that spot (hopelessly stupid), take your case to the authorities and let them handle the situation. If you run up against a "good ole boy" situation, and the authorities refuse to act, then you probably don't need to be escalating the situation in the first place.

What? I hope to God this is just an immature troll like I see from those idiots on the OTL. Again, this started out as a verbal confrontation, escalated to a mooning, then the boat bumping. I would hope, if you had your grandkids in the boat, you would have removed them from this situation long before they ever brought the boat into the scenario. I don't want my grandkids to be mooned by a filthy redneck over a fishing spot. And I damn sure don't want them to have to see a man get shot!
Don't get me wrong, if there was no other way out, I would certainly use lethal force if some nut case suddenly, without provocation or warning, tried to intentionally run my boat over with my loved ones on board. But in this situation I would have cranked my motor as soon as the hollering and profanity started. Once I removed them from the situation I would talk to them about why we left and why they should never act the way the rednecks acted. I would never teach them to use lethal force as a first response in a situation like this. You do that and one day you may have to bury one of them over something as stupid as road rage or a fishing hole pissing match.
I know I'm on my soap box, but even if some of the shooting comments are being made to draw others into a rant, it's not cool. We have all seen poster's comments in reference to young people either shooting someone or being shot. Comments to the effect that the shooting was a senseless waste of life. That the shooter was a product of poor raising or parenting. Yet I continually see posts on this board that would seemingly teach or encourage young readers to use lethal force in situations where it could easily be avoided. We have to start being more responsible when it comes to planting the wrong message in the mind's of our youth. Eliminating bullshite bravado on a seemingly stand up message board like the OB is a good place to start. Sorry about the rant.
