Ammo shortage

We all know there has been a pretty big ammo shortage since the first of the year so my question is when are manufacturers going to start ramping up supply and inventory get back to normal?

Will last quite a while, the ammo manufacturers can only increase their output so much. They’re not going to expand their facilities and hire a bunch of new people just to fill a temporary need.

The place I work at is trying to run full blast, but people are out with or because of the 'rona.

It's not as if they just have factories and ammo making machines sitting idle that they can just turn on. You don't spend money to build a factory to leave it turned off not building anything. Factories are generally built to run as close to 100% capacity as possible with no excess capacity.
They're also not going to spend money to increase their output capacity to handle a few months of panic buying.
It'll just have to work itself out of the system as people quit panic buying and demand returns to normal. Remember this when it does and lay in a stockpile over time. If anyone asks why you need hundreds or thousands of rounds, I want you to remember this.
Then kick them in the taint.

Ammo shortages are a result of panic buying, not decreased ammo production. Sounds like a good time for you to start handloading.

I'm sure as others have said that the factories are running balls to the wall for the most part. And the shortage will probably last for awhile, I'd guess somewhere around 6 to 9 months as long as things start moving in the right direction. Meaning that the virus is under control and that signs dont point to Biden becoming President.

Anyone got some good sites still selling ammo?

There are people buying guns who’ve never bought before. If Biden wins, there’ll be a mad scramble for guns and ammo. If Trump wins, the commies will try to overthrow the country. Demand for ammo won’t slow for at least another year.

In 2012 it took 2.5 years for .22 ammo to catch up with demand

As a hand loader, good luck.
Hard time finding components right now.
Can find some powder every now and then
Can occasionally find primers
Almost impossible to find any pistol bullets right now.

I found 9mm at https://store.indianspringsarmory.com
Some guy posted about finding an AR-15 there for under $700. I had never heard of it, but they say they have 9mm 223 and some 556 "On the shelf".

The Academy here has a sparse inventory of ammo. Some of the Pawn stores have a better selection. As far as the manufacturers, I see the same thing in toilet paper so I have little hope American manufacturing can rise to either challenge.

Try following some of your local stores social media accounts. A lot of times they’ll post when they get a new shipment.

Thanks for the link, just scored 1,000 9mm rounds for 30 cents a rounds once shipping added.

That ammo was about 17.5 cents a round four months ago. Some day we'll get back there.
JHP, oddly, hasn't gone up nearly as much in price. You can still find that for 80 or so cents a round and it's been fairly well available the whole time. It's the FMJ range ammo that is harder to find and woefully expensive.

For pure practice purposes the FMJ is still cheaper. I keep a mag loaded with JHP in my gun when not at the range.
