We were really lucky this year around Jackson, we actually got to hunt 2 to 3 days of actual rut unlike last year.

This is getting ridiculous, we just need to trade shitty December for February.

Are you noticing a trend in the rut getting later or is this just random? Interesting to say the least. Louisiana has 4-5 distinct ruts as far as I’m concerned within a very small state. shite fascinates me

I saw more deer on my camera I just retrieved in the last two weeks than I've seen all year.

Season ended at the beginning of January.

Just like last year. Deer everywhere last week of January/first week of February.

Fields,LA area.

I still get steady deer pics in Starks area but last week of October til mid November is noticeably the prime time regarding buck movement as long as I’ve been there.

I’ve been hunting up in Green county every year and the rut there is very late too.

Ours had shut down by Feb 1st in Henry County. Previous years they were running till the end of the season.

I say move the season back one month. Bow hunting in early November > sweating my arse off bow hunting in early October watching nothing but mosquitoes. Everything moves at night until late December anyways.

MS needs to extend the season until mid-Feb for the entire state.

The season is four months long. I grew up hunting in Perry County, MS with one of the latest ruts in the entire country and somehow we managed to kill bucks. You see deer now because people are largely out of the woods, feeders are dry, and in most places they’re starving due to being run down and sustained cold having killed the browse.

You can hate this or love it but the Earth is getting warmer and all that is natural evolves ands and adapts(changes).

In some areas, moving the season back 30 days would be a good idea.

If you don't hunt bow or muzzleloader where I hunt, you don't get any rut. Basically all done by Thanksgiving.

You mentioned Jackson, AL. . . you in the hills or more in the Swamp near Carlton, AL?

Used to hunt there for year with my uncle. Very fun hunting along AL River.

Our rut is listed as Feb 3 through 10th. The season ends on the 10th. I am blind in one eye and can’t bow hunt now so limited to rifle hunting and typically kill my bucks in late rut by calling them. Where I hunt you don’t ever see bucks in daylight other than maybe opening weekend until rut.

Our season used to end January 31st but we were able to use the Mississippi late season rut report to get it extended about 5 years ago as everyone was getting pissed off about it.

Alabama deer are genetically mostly hybrids of Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc deer that were transplanted to state in 50s to repopulate the herds so they aren’t real heat tolerant.

What typically happens is that the rut starts then we have a heat wave with mid 70 to 80 degrees temperatures and it basically stops or you don’t see the deer until it cools back off.

But that said it’s obviously getting later to adjust for these crazy temperatures. March is generally colder than December last few years.
I am ready to just go to extended season with tags at this point. It’s really not worth it to have 3 to 4 days a year to actually have a chance at a ok to decent buck.

Pics on hunting sites all over the state even in Northern Bama of deer still in rut everywhere this year. I have buddies that have them banging heads and chasing in late March from last year.

This is getting to be nuts

rifle season should be ten days. These deer dont need to be pressured for 3 months.
