The problem with public land in Louisiana, be it State or Federal, is coonasses. They're like a never ending plague.

Yep
I had one recently waiting for me coming out of the woods from a duck hole. He tried to tell me that his family leased the property I was just hunting. He went through a whole saga about the place, as I was pulling out my phone to open up OnxHunt maps. Then came his scam. "If you and your buddy each pay me $100 you can hunt here all season." I proceeded to show him the onxmap proving we were in fact on public ground on a WMA. He didn't know how to react and tried to go back into his story about why they leased the land again. I just said frick it and got in my truck as he was trying to continue the scam and drove off.

They all know how to make a gravy, so they will kill, cook and eat just about everything...

Once ppl know someone did well on “said WMA” it gets over run.
Apex Predator stopped posting where he was hunting/scouting/running bc of increased traffic.

They really need to do a lottery like on south farm for a lot of the duck hunting areas on wmas. Would eliminate a lot of BS.

Or at least regulate the 1st come 1st serve rules. Post a greenjeans in the parking lot. Allow entry to 1st # of hunters in line. Cut em off after a certain density # has been attained. etc.

Looks like fishing Big Lake

Sherburnes lottery system is one of the better run govt programs ever created.
Should apply to almost all impoundments in WMAs. Would benefit hunter's and kills.
I had some Yahoo!'s opening weekend walk to my flooded duck pond and proceed to tell me they were hunting a public land hole. As if public land that isn't a posted inpoundment area has water right now.

They don't need to inact a lottery, they need to get rid of the 4 wheeler trails that make getting away from easy access points nearly impossible. Go ahead and ban mud motors on public property while you are at if.
You want to cutdown on crowds? Make it a little harder for people to access every square inch of a piece of ground. For example, bag checks have shown that the LAA at Atchafalaya Delta WMA consistently have a higher bird per hunter effort than the rest of the WMA, yet people still bitch about the LAA.
Want to cut down on the number of folks at Bouef? Close down the ATV trails that go to every lake along the river, like V Lake that was mentioned in this thread.
Go pull up a map of most public land in LA, excluding some places like Kisatchie and Maurepas the Wax etc, you can't hardly go 1 mile in any direction without hitting a road or ATV trail. Quite comical

Alot of the atv trail rules aren't followed. On my place i should never hear an atv on the wma. But i do all the time.
However allowing access to other parts of a wma is not a bad thing. In theory, it should decrease the density of hunters and make ot safer.
LAA are the ticket for public land where it makes sense. But you dont LAA an impoundment. Do a lottery with impoundments.
Also, mud motors are a great industry and resource for Louisiana. Banning is not the answer, regulation through LAA isnt bad

Lol do you own a mud motor?
Posted on 12/14/17 at 10:47 pm to DennisReynolds
Yes i own a mud motor.
I also have replaced it with a 25hp to hunt a no mud motor wma. The MM it sitting on my porch.
I also got my parents out of their house in 2016 with it, saved a guy stranded on a trailer, and got a girl with cystic fibrosis her medicine out of her flooded house. I would not have been able to do any of that without the MM.
Mud motors have good uses and like anything else have been abused. They arent the cause of shitty duck hunting.

Limited access is the greatest rule ever put in place for duck hunters. People are lazy or just don't have the time to find/get into hard to reach spots in the marsh. With mud motors baws could roll into these hard to reach areas and constantly pushed ducks out. Now, places that have LAA are spots you can consistently kill birds. You gotta work for them though.
Hunted a pretty well known public lake a few years ago. It was a Tuesday morning in January, so we figured it would be an ok morning to make a hunt on a normally crowded little lake. We get there early, park the boat on the bank and setup under a cypress tree with some marsh seats. We shoot some birds early, then about an hour into the hunt we have a group of birds working and right as they appeared to commit, 2 quick shots were fired across the lake. Damn we thought bad luck. A little while later, the exact same scenario happened. Now it was a pattern, and boys started catching the red arse. Not 15 minutes later another group of birds are about to commit and 2 shots fired flaring the birds. We hopped in the boat and headed to where we knew they were. We pull right up to a boat and some old man (50-60) has a shotgun leveled in our general direction. One of the guys I was with had his camera out and was video/voice recording. The old man put the gun away once it was evident he was being videoed. He went on to say we were hunting his buddy Stump's blind. We tell the old man 1. It's public land and 2. We're hunting under a tree, no blind. He then goes on to say he's been hunting this lake for 20 years and ain't never seen this truck parked at the landing before. He also accused of sky blasting
Anyways we leave call the game warden, and meet him at the checkin station. We give him the guys boat tag and likely truck plate. We also show him the video. The warden then proceeds to check everything we have. It went from us reporting an a-hole to him looking through everything we had to try and ticket us. He cut open a handful of shells. He searched all the compartments of the boat. Even tried pulling up part of the boat floor, he was curious was the floor was loose there. We didn't even have a limit of birds lol.
It was easily the worse experience I've ever had hunting. If their goal was to run us off for good, well it worked. I haven't been back since, and I don't plan on it.
Oh and I'm not a flat biller. And I generally go out of my way to no conflict with another person hunting. If ducks are working for them I'm no quacking away trying to pull them. That old man and his buddy knew they were gonna frick us the second they saw us launch the boat.
