Will be my primary carry weapon and mostly live in my truck. I'm dead set on the Springfield XD, I've shot them and love the gun. I'm between the Mod 2 9mm service model or the standard XD .40.
I like the little extra stopping power of a .40, but I also like the higher capacity of the 9mm. I'm kinda leaning 9mm because I think the higher capacity outweighs the marginal difference in stopping power between the two calibers.

What say you?

9. Bullet technology has rendered the .40 useless. Get some hydrashoks and you'll be good.

Stick with bonded ammunition any you're golden.

9 for the reasons stated above, plus lower ammo cost

9mm. Look up the lucky gunner ballistic tests. The 9mm HSTs have as good a performance as you can want without getting into 10mm

40 S&W, 135 grain=
•Muzzle Velocity: 1442 fps
•Muzzle Energy: 623 ft. lbs

9mm, 124 grain=
Muzzle Velocity: 1150 fps
Muzzle Engery: 364 ft. lbs

Once you find guns that are built on a heavier frame (like HK USP) instead of a that wimpy 9mm frame then the recoil of the 40 s&w is nothing.

Muzzle energy isn't really the best way to judge how effective a cartridge is. It kinda goes along with the idea of knockdown power (which is stupid). Yes, if a bullet dumped all of its energy as soon as it hit a target (flattened and stopped moving as it hit a sift target), you would have an argument for knockdown power in which case muzzle energy is important. This isn't the case though. Bullets keep moving even after they hit a soft target so there is still energy being used over time and distance. I would much rather have more capacity and less recoil than a bullet that has more muzzle energy. This is all coming from someone who shoots mostly .40 S&W.

10mm or .357

the 10mm was developed to mimic the .357 ballistics

Close - HST in 124 grain.

But, for the OP - .40 is fine, but if you're not already in the camp, go with 9mm.

Eh. It's closer to a .41 magnum.
