Is there a lottery every morning/evening for stands?
The place I’ve hunted had a drawing every weekend hunt after breakfast and lunch, and first come first serve during the week. If there was an organized horse drive in the morning, the horse riders got first choice that afternoon. Never had any problems doing it that way.

For sure. I’d cut a lot of Cypress wood

I didn't realize diamond had any openings right now. It is a share in the main club or someone is already trying to offload their 500 acre square?

Some of the old camps have days where they drive deer with horses. Just a traditional way of hunting.

Palmyra has two draws every day. The map is divided into section-no idea on acreage. My host has gotten his choices every time I've been there. He does a bit more scouting than most and doesn't hunt the towers
I spent alot of time there as a guest in my late teens and 20s (1980s and early 90s mainly).
Had a ton of fun times there, and not just deer hunting.
For a young man used to North Central piney woods deer hunting, that place was a paradise even then.
My host had his own camp but we'd also spend time in the big camp in the evenings. Poker games, slot machines, Coke machines with beer stocked in them. And amazing stories from some of the older members about the hunting there in the late 60s and 70s.
Good times.

I don't know anything about Rosedale. I know just a little about Palmyra, and not much else at all that can't be learned from google.

You have 4 or 5 guys on horses start an organized drive through part of the property while the rest of the hunters get on stands in front of the horse riders. Works great on big acreage. Drive one spot in the morning and still hunt the afternoon somewhere else.
It used to be real popular on the river, but is dying off as that generation gets older and the camps evolve.
It’s a total blast when you have good horse riders that know the land like the back of their hands. You hear them coming and the radio chatter gets going. It will get your adrenaline pumping. If you get in the right spot, it’s nothing to see 50 deer in one morning. I saw 24 racked bucks one morning in front of horse riders.

Totally not my thing.

Got some sand down there this evening? The guy was just asking a question.

Different strokes. A lot goes into making it work. Organization, picking the right route, good horse riders, and not having idiots on the stands. Otherwise it is a pretty big disaster, especially if you have hero horse riders.

Guys I know who did it are older. They did it because the deer population used to not be so great even along the River. Ran dogs too.
Dogs and horses used in deer hunting have died off because the need to use them has gone away. Deer everywhere.
I read where in the 1920s there were only 1,200 deer in Mississippi.

Most of the deer in Ms are direct descendants of three herds that were interbred in captivity, that is why I lol at folks yapping about genetics.
The only difference between a 240lbs trophy 10 point from the river region and a 135lbs 6 point basket in the piney woods is food source.

Rosedale has not changed much and Parker still runs it. They actually had memberships open the past two years. Heard one of the members say it is the first time they had open memberships in over 20 years. With the way the river rises and falls so frequently people are getting tired of fighting it

How much is a membership there? Just curious what it takes.
