Does cooking the meat all the way kill the prions?
Posted on 11/13/18 at 9:24 am to Tiger Prawn
I don’t know the answer to that, but in the study I linked, they studied 3 cases of patients with CJD who consumed venison to determine if there was a link. I assume these patients didn’t consume it raw.

I think if you cook the meat for several hours at over 900 degrees it will be denatured to the point that it can no longer cause normal proteins to misfold.

Introduced by the govt as a means of population control and eventually the elimination of the second amendment when hunting is self eliminated.

Aaaaaaand boom goes the dynamite. I think that this is where we're headed.
Last night, I'm on gunbroker looking at Buffalo Classics. I ask myself, "why bother?" frick hunting. Then, I'm wondering where that leads.
I'm gonna sell every rifle I have and buy AR's and ammo at this point. (Probably not, but maybe)
This is all a fricking disaster. I'm sick to my fricking stomach.

I don't think my meat thermometer goes that high.
As far as contaminating meat, I feel even better about the no-gut deboning method I've been using on my deer of late. The spine never has to be severed although I usually do cut the head off. No reason to do this so I probably won't anymore.
I also sure won't take any spinal shots on deer either. That seems like it would be one of the worst ways to spread.

Thinking about it, It seems like Boelte's property would be a good place to look for cwd. If mature bucks are usually the victim, then his land, if cwd is present, should show the most deer infected. Where else in the south are there as many deer per acre with the ability to live out till death of old age? With the money and effort to creating a sportsman haven, I'd be surprised if he doesn't have a biologist on staff.

Lol at he downvotes but half the people in this thread are talking about giving up deer hunting and eating deer. Also, supporting man made extinction of a species to control a disease that man created.
Let nature adapt.
Don’t eat the meat, die of cancer instead.

You can get your deer tested. They want the whole head on ice.

Good info, thanks. They should advertise this so we get more people testing.

Do you know if they will take a buck that you cut the antlers off of? Most people want to keep their antlers and bucks supposedly get cwd more frequently than does.

Most taxidermists are working with green jeans up here. Just let them handle it. I would urge you to not saw through the skull of any deer if you are located in or near an affected area. And if you do, just know that the brain/spinal column are where heavy concentrations of the prion are held.

is not a problem in Mississippi, and should not be one in Louisiana, they take the sample from the brain stem which is opposite of the antlers (where the neck meets the head)

This needs to be public information posted for the masses.
I have a buck sitting in the freezer and I could have easily dropped off the head to LDWF.
We love venison but I am not going to feed it to my kids anymore. Simply not worth the risk.
We may become full time duck hunters and give up on the deer. This MS mess is too close to home.

Yes. You can cape the animal and keep the antlers and skull cap.
Here is a link
How to have your deer tested for CWD
quote:
• Please record the GPS location of where the deer was harvested.
• To submit a deer head for CWD testing, remove the head about 5 inches below the ear.
• Deer heads may be caped with antlers and skull cap removed.
• DO NOT FREEZE - Samples should be refrigerated or saved on ice.
