Not telling you to try it or where to launch from but I do it quite often in a 17 foot poling skiff. It's manageable.

Similar situation here, we opted to simply keep the registration up to date and didn't change a thing. When the renewal showed up in the mail I sent them a check and kept on using the boat.

Having just gotten into trying throwing a fly rod, I can understand why the quality of the rod makes a difference.

Some of fly rod costs are caught up in the components. A lot of people don't realize #20 recoil stripping guide retails for $15, quality cork is in the $30 range, double foot snake guides that have a decent finish are several dollars each. Reel seats can get pricy. It's easy to spend $100 on components and then glue them onto a $50 blank.

As for the prepreg, I have my doubts. I've built and repaired enough rods at this point in my life to have the opinion that most rods are relatively close in raw material quality. I have some 8wt and 10wt rods built on IM7 blanks that were $45/each and they cast every bit as well as some of the trendy thousand dollar sticks.

I’ve got drive up access near magnolia beach bridge. Anyone want to set something up that involves me being a float participant let me know

Any time you want to go I have a place to launch about 5 miles up river of the bridge.

Does anyone know if this launch/area can be reached coming up river from Fred's? Or is it too sketchy.
Where you in a Gheenoe? I think we chatted for a second a little ways south of sandy creek.

Small world. Glad it worked out for you.

Appears to be possible to put in from LA Hwy 37. Can someone confirm?

The hwy 37 bridge is a no go. It's very steep on the upriver side. There is no good way to the bars south of the bridge even if you ignored all the no trespassing signs. the other side is a power line and you would have to drag your boats over some fencing. Check the google street view and you will see why.

I've been trying to arrange a legal takeout spot down river from me for years without much luck. The only way to get out at magnolia beach is behind frogs or drag a boat across someones driveway. There is no access at all on the west side of that bridge.

The only legal take out I am aware of is the French town road park. It's like 8/10th of a mile from the river to the parking lot but it's doable. I may be able to help you out with a launch spot but that only gives you 11 miles from put in to French town.

Anyone know how landowners are in that section regarding use of the sandbars? Technically legal to camp, but some people can be difficult. Would camp as close to the river as possible.

The bars are perfectly legal. Check your camp spots carefully. You would be surprised how close some homes are to the water.
So the police chief or the town attorney, who they don't even name, has to review your papers ?

Mayor Camardelle, I've never liked that guy. He and those JP dick beaters are LOVING it.

I suppose it could be depending on the arrangement

Amite river float

Anyone with access within a mile or two of magnolia beach bridge want to strike a deal?

I'll give access and use of equipment to launch a boa on my property if someone downriver will let me use their spot as a takeout point.

A lunch point near Hwy 63 and Weiss would work as well. I'll even leave a trailer and tractor at the take out to use.

Are you the owner or hooked up with them? Let me know so people will know

No but I've been there enough times to know they have a drop box to leave your ten dollars. I also did more than just look at the picture. I actually read the post.

We had a guy who was the risk manager of the city where I live who thought every claim against the city was bullshite and would fight them vigorously. Was difficult to deal with but he was just doing his job.

He was tapped from the side while backing up from a parking spot, herniated a disc in his neck, and had to have a one-level fusion.

He moved on from the risk management spot, but he did such a 180 after going through it personally. I hate it had to happen that way for him because he's a nice guy, but I can't help but think of that story whenever the "no property damage so they can't be injured" folks show up.
I use this. It's probably over priced but I don't have to go driving around for bait for a single net.

My slat trap doesn't get baited but it takes a while to get good and slimy before flatheads will move into it.

Ran my net and slap trap yesterday. I kept one nice flathead from the slat trap and two eater size blues from the hoop net.
