Was actually just in Norway for a few weeks for work and we talked about this. The couple hunters I spoke with had no issue with taking any means necessary to "remove CWD".

I was under the impression that it gets in the soil/clay and live there for a long time. That would mean exterminating the deer herd for who knows how long.

Yes, and supposedly gets even tougher when binding to clay particles.

My point was just that Norway was willing to do anything they thought would keep it from spreading.

Correct, I suspect it is one of the main ways this is being spread around. Literally carried on the boots of hunters.

My family member died of CJD too. Absolutely horrific way to go.

For those that lost family to CJD, is there a chance it was from deer? Any idea how they got it?

Highly unlikely, it is suspected from a blood transfusion when he was younger.

Researchers on case believe it came from blood transfusion during hip replacement surgery years prior.

GREENHEAD,

Would you be sending anything in for analysis yet if you lived and hunted in South LA?

I’m guessing MS wouldn’t even take deer for testing if they were from LA.

I live and occasionally still hunt in SLA but no as of now I wouldn't. Even if you wanted to I dont think LA has anything set up yet for it. While I do think humans can probably get CJD from eating deer with CWD and it is only a matter of time before it is proven I think it is rare. Let me state this is just my opinion though. I did a lot of research on this subject and suggest all fellow concerned sportsman ti do the same.

There is research coming out that indicates we could be seeing the end of deer hunting as we know it if a cure or vaccine isnt found. I am not talking right now put 10-20+ yrs out. For the first time there are areas where herds are reaching 80% or greater infection rates so it will be interesting to see how it affects those populations.

I was in central Wyoming a few weeks back. CWD has been out there for a while. Deer were everywhere. I saw a lot of deer killed that were being brought out whole. The game processor was taking them whole. If Wyoming is any indication, the end of deer hunting is a long way off.

Wisconsin is the same way, I should clarify it is just one theory out there. One of many because there is still a lot not known.

How’s that an indication of anything? I’m not following what you’re inferring here.

I will say I probably wont be bringing my deer to the processor anymore and I use one in Kentwood.

Wyoming has a lot of CWD and has had for a while. The hunting culture hasn’t changed there.

I think if I was from Louisiana I would definitely have to have second thoughts about hunting in Mississippi. Seems much too risky.

Was telling a coworker that I go hunt with at his place in the poplarville MS area about this. He sent back a pic he just got, I’m pretty sure, off his game camera of a sickly looking doe.

Saw this as well. If so, that's a large part of the state covered.

Why is LWLF not conducting more tests than they are? It is like they don't want to find it. We are surrounded at this point.
