re: Sharks
Posted by Bucktown Tiger on 9/9/25 at 12:47 pm to YOURADHERE
Did not matter last week. Fished lightning, 109 and Cognac for AJs. All were blue. All were totally full of sharks. We even had sharks circling our boat within minutes of stopping to deep drop way out in open water 800'+ deep. They're literally everywhere.
I've noticed more and more that the sharks are taking the leads before the bait. Puglia's and Professional are consistently out of deep drop leads shortly after they restock, so I presume many are having the same problems.

I recently bit the bullet and bought sord pliers and absolutely love them. Cheapest pliers that seem to last are Bubba pliers. Haven’t rusted in over a year, and they stay on my boat in Venice 24/7. Everything cheaper lasts a couple of trips before they seize up.

Saturday was slick calm offshore. We were running around 50+ mph all day. Makes it so easy to fish and cover open water quickly

Trout are there. So are the sharks.

Sharkbanz. Surf fish in Breton a lot. Put a band on stringer and on ankle. Have watched shark approach stringer and turn away with sharkbanz attached.
re: MS River at Venice

I fished the east side on Friday and Saturday and came in through baptiste. Plenty of debris and logs outside baptiste and around Breton. Fished west delta on Sunday and didn’t see any logs. Red pass was clear too. Wouldn’t run river in dark right now, especially for snapper.

Outstanding and reliable. I have it on my center console that I fish out of Venice. Amazing speed and clarity even when going 50+ mph. We have streamed LSU and Saints games at the floaters (when not pirating the signal from floaters). I pay $250/mo

I believe it is still unpassable. I read that the dredging stopped because they encountered a submerged pipeline. Use Red Pass.

IMO that is plenty of time. I have seen it very crowded in JFK immigration but I cannot imagine needing more than 2 1/2 hours. You will probably be waiting longer for any checked baggage to get off the plane than it will take you to get through immigration.

Thanks for the replies. Definitely a black belly rose fish. One of the best tasting fish I have ever had. Wish I had more of them.

Gosier Islands are essentially gone. Curlew seems to be quickly following behind. Breton was recently rebuilt with a significant dredging project and it looks fantastic.

Opens May 27th and limit raised to 3 per person. Still $50 per fish at current gas prices.
re: What kind of duck is this?

On any given day the lagoons in Audubon Park are holding at least 25,000 of these. Probably a lot than that. Incredible numbers.
East lump reports?

Any big boys showing up yet? Two weeks ago it was shark city
re: Chicago Brick Oven- Anyone here have one?

I’ve tried roasting vegetables, but I like it best for pizza and focaccias. Takes about 45 minutes to get it up to temperature, but makes damn good pizzas
