Looking into a .300prc rifle. Not 100% set on brand, but I do like the hells canyon browning. Any other rifles in that category I should be considering?
Glass. After reading reviews, YouTube, and talking with a few baws my choice is the Leupold Mark5 5x25x56. Any input on other scopes I should look into? Thanks

Can you find ammo? That Browning is a great looking rifle.
Why in the world would you put that much scope on it?

Been thinking of getting that rifle in a 270. I do see the PRC more readily available.

You didn’t give a budget so look at Christensen rifle or a custom build.
That Leupold is a great scope. Will you be using this gun for hunting or competition? If hunting do you really need the first focal plane and the cost to go with it? I have a Leupold VX5 hd 3-15x44. I can’t imagine a better hunting scope. I will say that I also have a Vortex razor 4.5-27x56 and a Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56.
The nightforce has the best glass by far. The other two are pretty close though but the Vortex and Nightforce are crazy heavy.

I’ve got the 6.5 prc in the Christensen MPR, because I saw it in the 300 PRC and liked the reduced weight. Look at the Tract scope, it’s pretty bad arse. Got the 4.5x30x 56 and just love it...

This will be used for hunting. I’m sick of these dam deer coming out at dusk at 250+ yards and not being able to see them. Plus I have always wanted one good long range rifle and It’s something that will last a lifetime that I can pass down to my boys.
As far as ammo I know a few places local that get shipments in pretty regular. I don’t need a huge stock pile starting off.

I had a VX6 7-42x56 on my X-Bolt. It was a little big but I loved the setup.
The VX-6 HD I wanted for my 6.5CM AR was backordered so as recommended to me on here I got the NightForce ATACR 5-25X56 and it fits the gun perfectly and is an awesome scope. I never understand the hate for big scopes on this board but yet what makes you happy.

Just read an article yesterday from outdoor life explaining scope brightness and magnification.
Clip from the article:
“The magic hour for hunting is often the last few minutes of legal shooting light a half hour or more after sunset. Our pupils might then dilate to 6mm. They could use all of the 5mm EP and 1mm more. So step up to a big 56mm objective and what do you get? A 5.6mm EP. Not quite the 6mm you could fully use. You’ll need a 60mm objective at 10X to get the full 6mm EP. And if you want maximum brightness at the last minute or two of legal shooting light, you might need a 7mm EP scope. To get that, of course, you’d need a 70mm objective at 10X.

Whitetails probably drive more hunters to seek super bright scopes than any other species.Ron Spomer
I don’t think they make hunting scopes with 70mm objectives. An easy, inexpensive (actually, free!) alternative is to TURN THE POWER DOWN. A 50mm objective at 7X yields a 7.1mm EP. You get all the light your pupils can take in! Of course, you no longer have the magnifying power of 10X, but do you really need it?”

I know 2 guys that have them and love them. I looked at getting one but ammo is not readily available in that caliber.

When that buck comes out at last light at 250+ yards and you have a hard time seeing them, then maybe that buck won the game that day. Any decent scope can get on a deer during legal light. What you need is quality binoculars to see what they are before you shoot. I’d spend money on high end binoculars before I spend it on a high end scope.
Scope magnification above 12x is useless for shooting deer. Higher than can be nice for looking at them.

If it steps out from a distance and I can tell it’s a big body/ decent horns I’m looking with my rifle.

I hunt field edges and long lanes in CRP. I’ve hunted all over the West. Never have I felt the need for anything close to a 25x scope with 56mm bell. I do enjoy looking through Swarovski binos on every hunt.
The best plan on shooting at last light is to cut your range down a bit. If they run off, it can be difficult to know their reaction and find where they were standing. Out of respect for the game, last light isn’t the time for long shots.
I think the 300 PRC is a fine round and it’d serve you well.

I'd look into either building a custom or go with a Bergara Premier series. Seekins would also be another option I'd look into. I have zero interest in ever owning another Christensen after the one I owned wouldn't group and customer service was an absolute joke. That glass you chose is one of the few Leupold's that I would ever own. Its good glass that will dial reliably. Tract and Nightforce would be another couple options for ya

I’ve got a Browning Hell’s Canyon Long Range in .300winmag with a Leupold Vx5HD 3-15x44 and Thunder Chicken silencer. Damn is it fun to shoot.

He makes some good points. Sight a 300 WBY in 3” high at 100 yards, and you can hold on the body out to 400 yards. No need to spin turrets.

Hence my hate for the creddmoor and most of the new stuff thats coming out every year now. Its all fads

So using the Old Timer's Logic the .300 Win Mag is nothing but a sales gimmick.
