Assume your guns are gone. You are starting over and can purchase any 3, but only 3. They must cover ALL your uses including but not limited to:

Varmint
Home defense
Carry of any type
Plinking
Must be legal(in your State) for the stated purpose. Must be available for the general public.

I'm in this exact situation because of Katrina. Except my budget is $0. 
Only new gun I've bought since Katrina is a Springfield Armory XD9. I've had to use one of my bro-in-law's shotguns when we went duck hunting.

1 . Benelli Vinci 12 ga. (for turkey,duck,dove,and home defence)
2. Ar-15 .223 cal semi-auto with a Zeiss 10x52 and a silencer (incase of anarchy)
3. 8mm Military grade issue sniper rifle with military issued scope (deer-moose)
I would also buy 3000+ rounds for each with the way Obama is running things

That would have been my list. Really want to put a 22 in there for the 1911, but I think you can get the job done with the 12ga. Would possible make the 308 a 30-06, but probably not.

So, if you can only have 3 guns and you are a sportsman (hunter) you should use one of those choices for an assault rifle? I am leaning towards not even including a handgun and you feel that we are all idiots for not including an assault rifle?
I will go as far to say that if you actually hunt and can only have 3 guns, you are a damn fool for including and assault weapon in there.
