All depends on weather. I'll hunt regardless, though.

We're but a month away from from migrating teal sightings.

Starting to get the itch for all the cooking, drinking and carrying on that goes with it

No, not looking any better than the last few years. Maybe even worse as the upper mid west is expecting to have warmer than usual winter. Over 79 million acres of corn to fly past???? Not gonna be pretty. But some how everyone here will defend DU and Delta and some will write checks to one or both. Exact definition of insanity.

You do realize that: 1.) the overwhelming bulk of that acreage is on terrain a duck wants nothing to do with? And 2.) More acres than the referenced 79 mill were in corn in past seasons that were really good. Right?

It will be interesting. I used to duck hunt in Louisiana when it was good. I also hunted on the Katy Prairie for six years and it could be pretty good (not much rice farming left). But reading these posts the last several years it looks like things have been tough in the deep south. I'll bet you kill the BW teal cause I always did in both places.

Hell we are killing mostly blue wings throughout January, louisiana is now the destination for the winter not the layover to Mexico or south florida.

91 million actually according to the latest USDA report, but a lot of speculation that number is coming down to the mid 80s which would be pretty low acreage for the last few years. Haven’t planted less than 85 since 2006.

Plenty of good hunting in years we plant over 90, even the “good ol days” people like to remember had lots of corn planted. US was still planting 70-85 million acres in the 70s and 80s too.

But don’t let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory about DU or whoever.

Ive said it before and ill say it again, this isnt your dads duck hunting anymore. You cant sit in the same piece of marsh or field that "had thousands of birds on it every morning in the 80's" and expect to kill birds. You have to change it up. Birds are more pressured now than ever before in history with the mud motor. There is no place in this state that is not inaccessible anymore. Marshes change, flyways change, weather patterns change, and even ducks change but the only thing that hasnt are some of the hunters who havent realized the above.

Last year made all the duck dynasty #QuackAttckers quit.
I'll be enjoying their absence this year and reaping the benefits hopefully

Absolutely. Who would want a TV show to get more people interested in duck hunting?

This type of attitude is exactly what we don’t want in our sport.
