They DID find two life jackets on a bank.
The boats motor WAS attached but torn apart.
The boat itself was NOT torn apart
This seems promising if they found the life jackets on shore and the boat wasn’t wrecked

My biggest fear on the river is my boat engine quitting and drifting towards a barge with no control. Always have a paddle or 2 so you can get it to shore

Seems like good evidence they made it to land? Hopefully they are holed up in an old duck blind or something.

Getting hit by a barge doesn’t seem to be the case. Wouldn’t they be wearing their life jackets knowing they wear in the path of a barge? Sounds like they ran upon a rock outcropping.

i hunt around Davis Island right on the Mississippi River and ill be honest guys its rough out there. I pray that they are alright but there are plenty of camps out there for them to hopefully find someone sitting in the woods. that terrain is really rough and thick at least where i hunt at but as long as they made it to shore they should find their way out. im praying they are alright.

Curious what kind of motor it was. Young guys with an old beater? Certainly possible the guys just couldn’t get it started and walked and then the boat drifted down river without them in it. Or they hit something hard and then made it to shore.
This is a good reason to have a trolling motor also. Most guys do but not all.

quote:. She’s a mean bitch. The water should be above the dikes, was at 25 and rising a NTZ last weekend, but would probably still be turbulent across the dikes at that level. Always run close as you can to the bank. Really dangerous when you have to travel the middle when the water is low. Hopefully these guys are found safe. Seems they made it to the bank given info above?

That happened to a couple of fishermen a few years ago near the Port Allen grain elevator. One guy survived, one guy didn't. The boat lost power and drifted in front of a barge. I never understand why people take small fishing boats in to the Mississippi River; that's just not a smart thing to do.

Any update so far this morning?

I agree. But in fairness, a 24’ Pathfinder is small when next to other traffic on the MR and people run those all day around Venice.
Let’s face it, any boat gets to be too small when the engine craps out.

Is it not normal for y'all to have a trolling motor or "kicker"?
We all have 1 up here for trolling but even when I'm not trolling it's my backup in case my motor dies.
I've been on a boat more than once that died. The kicker saved us.

Insane to be on a fast moving river with commercial traffic and not at a minimum have a trolling motor or backup, you're EFFED without it.

Agreed, that rule of thumb has been drilled into me. The only time I don't have my kicker is if I'm relaxing on a lake.

this is so sad
that damn river terrifies me. I pucker up just crossing the jump the Baptiste Collette. Fast moving deep current can quickly make a bad situation dangerous. We run wax lake outlet in small 14’ boats and I make sure to hug the bank, stay out of traffic and boat wakes and be ready to toss an anchor if I get in trouble
