re: Anyone having issues with their Silverado transmissions?
Posted by AdmiralApe on 11/23/24 at 7:22 am to GREENHEAD22
No issues really. I work for a Nissan dealer and have yet to see one come in for a serious issue. Only one i’ve seen was fixed with a software update. Nissan doesn’t mess around about fixing problems quick unlike GM. I hate they are no longer making the Titan. Main issue i see is starters going out at around 100k and fan clutches going out early but with the 5 year 100k warranty i wouldn’t be concerned. I worked at a GMC dealer and in one week I saw two 2024 Sierras with less than 50 miles on them have the transmissions grenade. I’ve owned 4 Silverados and I never thought I would say it but I would buy a Titan before a Silverado. This isn’t the Nissan of 2012. We have only replaced one transmission in a car that was newer and it was a 2019 Altima with 250k miles and she never had it serviced.

I held two in person at a pawn shop in Mississippi, the guy said they only ordered a handful and they have almost sold immediately. The ones I held were the .223 and 5.56 versions. My impressions were it was really light, the stock has kind of an aggressive texture to it. The only negative thing I noticed were both ones I held the barrel was pretty much touching the stock on one side, which is easily fixable but the gap between the barrel and the stock is quite large compared to other rifles with free floating barrels so it kind of concerned me to see that it was basically touching on both guns. They were also listed at $589, don’t know if the bigger calibers will be more expensive.

How do you like the 6.5-300 WBY? Saw one for sale and liked the ballistics but was worried about ammo availability. Seems like a lot of people on this thread are using WBY cartridges.

What about the Hornady CX bullet in the Outfitter ammo? I picked up a box last year in .30-06 to use in my Weatherby. It shot absolutely dead on, the bullet seemed to just pass right through with little carnage. Shot a doe at 252 yards and she ran 10 yards.
Best Scope for Ruger 10/22
Posted by AdmiralApe on 8/17/23 at 11:40 pm
Looking for a scope for my Ruger 10/22. I have a cheap older Japanese made Tasco on it right now but looking to upgrade. I was looking at the Burris Droptine Rimfire, Vortex Crossfire Rimfire for the Leupold VX Freedom Rimfire. Are there any other good options besides those? Not really a strict budget but not wanting to pay over $500 as I will mainly be using it for squirrel hunting and general plinking.
re: AR15 having issues

The store that assembled it was Louisiana Firearms off Old Hammond. They didnt even offer once to take it apart and reassemble it, nor did they even for one second admit they might have done something wrong, all they offered to do was take it to the range for me and shoot it and see whats wrong but I have to pay for the ammo. I highly doubt they checked the headspace or checked to make sure everything was fit correctly. He had the entire upper assembled in 20-30 minutes and 10 minutes of that was them trying to find the hand guard because they lost it.

I swapped a BCM BCG into it from a friends rifle for one magazine and it had no problems but not every magazine I fired with my BCG had a problem so I don’t know for certain if thats a problem. I wish I had used his BCG in my rifle for a bit longer but we ran out of ammo unfortunately.
AR15 having issues

LINK
I provided a link to some pictures. I recently had an upper built by a local gun store in BR. The lower is a complete BCM lower with an H buffer. The upper is a Colt upper receiver, Sons of Liberty Gun works 13.7 Combat Barrel, Sons of Liberty BCG, Aero Precision Gas Block and Gas tube. The gas system is mid length. I took it to the range and shot 350 rounds of brass PMC and various steel case. The first 150 rounds shot were brass. The very first bullet in the very first magazine jammed. Throughout the 350 rounds shot I probably had over 30 plus failure to feeds, failure to ejects, multiple times the bolt went forward but didnt load a round into the camber, and one time the bolt got so stuck trying to eject a round I had to physically use all my strength to pull the charging handle back to get it unstuck from the feed ramps on the barrel. For reference, I was using 5.56 and .223, the magazines I was using were Gen 3 PMAGS and Surplus USGI Colt magazines. They have been used on multiple other guns with no problems and yes the gun was lubed properly. I took it back to the gun store that put it together and it was a young 20 something year old Marine who politely told me that 1. the feed ramps cannot be misaligned on an AR15 and thats a myth and he knew what he was talking about because he was a Marine and operated million dollar weapon systems. 2. that I didnt have it lubed properly. 3. That the steel case ammo was the problem. 4. he then said that the gun just needed to be run harder and that his Daniel Defense rifle had that problem at first and his new Sig Macro jammed the first round. He took my gun and said he would take it to the range and shoot it himself and try to figure out what is wrong. I had a former US Army 91f Armorer take a look at these pictures and he said the feedramps are not aligned, to check the headspace and gas tube alignment and said that kid was a moron and was wrong and to take the gun to someone else before they frick it up even worse. The rounds are getting hung up on the feed ramp. One of the pictures I included is a picture of the BCG not going all the way forward into battery when I rack a round which to me seems like the feed ramps arent aligned causing the BCG lugs to not sit properly in the feed ramps. If anyone has any suggestions on what they believe is the problem or who I should take it to other than this gun store I would appreciate it.

re: If LSU Dies - So Does Baton Rouge - Crime Related
Posted by AdmiralApe on 9/19/22 at 6:06 pm to RaginCajunz
As a current LSU student I genuinely wish I never attended this University. I regret it every day of my life. The constant fear now of being murdered, robbed, carjacked is not worth the piss poor education I am receiving. This University is a joke, I grew up loving LSU and almost everyone in my family has attended LSU but I am just trying to graduate as fast as possible and get the hell away from this University and this town. I genuinely hate LSU now, I want nothing to do with it and I encourage every high school student to stay away. The academics are a joke, the student support is a joke, if you are not an athlete this University has nothing to offer you other than the potential of being the victim of a crime.

I actually saw a bunch in our pastures out past Walker on Saturday night. I was quite surprised to see them and there was a lot. Hopefully they don’t die off, we usually have a few every couple years but there was more than I have ever seen the other day.
MSM vs Fahrenheit
Posted by AdmiralApe on 4/27/22 at 7:15 am
I used MSM last fall to spot treat some real bad Virginia Buttonweed in my St. Augustine and it worked in getting rid of it but this year I am dealing with dollarweed in the front yard and clover in the back yard. I know MSM is sort of overkill so I was recommended Fahrenheit. Is it worth ordering a bottle if I already have MSM? I have 4 trees in the front yard so I was told spraying MSM might not be a good idea. I appreciate the help.
Redmax Blower
Posted by AdmiralApe on 4/26/22 at 11:27 pm
I picked up a Redmax EBZ8500 blower off Facebook for incredibly cheap. I took it completely apart and cleaned everything including the carb. I slapped it all back together, replaced the fuel lines, gas tank grommet, fuel filter, spark plug, air filter, and primer bulb. No matter what the damn thing will not start cold unless I spray starting fluid in it then it will crank and run fine. It primes good but I just don’t understand why it wont start but once it gets running it stays running. Ive never had this happen to me before.
re: MSM Turf Questions
Posted by AdmiralApe on 4/26/22 at 8:16 pm to Goldensammy
I used MSM Turf last fall to spot treat some Virginia Buttonweed but is it okay to treat the entire lawn? I have some clover, crabgrass, and a few other weeds throughout the lawn and I just want to make sure I can spray the entire lawn with MSM and not have to spot treat.
re: 33x12.50R22LT Tires
Posted by AdmiralApe on 4/25/22 at 1:23 pm to bubba102105
Are you looking for a mud tire again? A hybrid or an all terrain? I had a set of Gladiators once....never again, road noise on the highway was ridiculous once they got worn. You won't have much of a choice in that size in brands that won't be noisy unfortunately. I recommend the Ridge Grapps, Trail Grapps, Toyo Mt's, BFG KO2's in that size for quieter.
re: What is the best fertilizer for lawns right now?
Posted by AdmiralApe on 4/25/22 at 8:20 am to jfw3535
Damn that stuff is not cheap but I was looking for a good fertilizer for my St. Aug, when is the latest you can spread the Lesco out? I was thinking about applying some Metsulfuron Methyl because I have some dollerweed and a few other weeds in my front yard mainly but I don't know if it's too late to spray that or if I should just go ahead and lay out the fertilizer.
re: Selling guns
Posted by AdmiralApe on 3/21/22 at 8:22 am to Ol boy
Some weeks its bad with scams and some weeks its not. I have sold multiple guns on there in the past few months. I just sold a Glock on there last week. Blame Louisiana Sportsman not keeping up with their site. Its no longer a good place to buy guns but its still good to sell guns. If your prices arent ridiculous most guns will sell within one or two days ive found.

Louisiana Sportsman Classifieds has a gun section. Probably going to be your best bet.

There is a Hunting club and lease classified section on Louisiana Sportsman, its fairly early so not a lot of people have posted openings yet but there is one post about an opening for bow hunting only lease opening in West Fel I believe or fairly close for the low price of $5,300 a year if you are willing to pay that lol.

I pass by it on the way to my hunting lease, my cousins said its just a fishing dock that was built for the landowners grandkids to enjoy and I guess they thought it would be cool.

I just checked it out on their website. I have never used anything other than 3-9x40’s or 3.5-10x50’s so is the difference between a 3-9x40 and a 2.5-8x36 going to be significant? I usually dont take shots past 100 yards.
