For that price range, you're lookin at

Dan Wesson Guardian/Valor/Silverback
STI Trojan (or save for the nicer 2011s)
Smith & Wesson Performance Shop (any)
Kimber Super Carry Custom
Springfield TRP

Carson, thoughts on the worth of a Gold Cup .45 unfired? Might need the safe space for my bling bling.

I had an sti Trojan in 9mm. Should have never sold. One of the smoothest shooting pistols ive ever shot.

Id love to have a double 9mm sti.

Buy a colt for about $850 and drop in Ed Brown or Wilson parts. You should be able to get a Match drop in Barrel(still requires fitting), Match trigger, beaver tail, and thumb safety and stay close to your budget. I did this with a Colt XSE Light Weight and I am very pleased. I sent to Robar last year and had the Roguard matte finish and NP3+ on the internals and they did their 1911 reliability package. Turned out fantastic. My only regret is not getting the front strap stipple job for them.

I have an Ed Brown Special Forces and this gun shoots as good as the Brown.

For 1500 dollars I'm not buying a 1911.

I'm buying a Custom CZ Accu Shadow

Two different guns there though. I don't think you can make the comparison.

How can you even compare those two?

I mean if I didn't have a 1911 and had $1500ish for a pistol, I'd probably buy an H&K Mark 23.

I know nothing about 1911s.

What does an extra $850 get me over what I paid for a used old stainless colt? Goes band every time. Seems to be more accurate than I am. Anything different in the design or is it fit and finish and tolerance?

Mostly better triggers, extended slide release, extended safety, different hammer, beavertail grip safety, match barrel, grips, better sights, etc.

ETA: when you get up to $2500+ you will get to tighter tolerances with hand fitting.
