You lost, Nate. Whining won't change that.
Exactly. You wanted the gold? Go out there and take it. It was sitting on the shelf.
Jack Hughes took it. You didn't.
Hughes and Hellebuyck are now immortal in the American sports lexicon.

And this other thing Canadians are bitching about. The supposed too many men on the ice - the sixth one is a safe distance (and going towards) at the bench. If the Olympics rule is the same as the NHL then it's not a penalty. That player going off the ice can not touch the puck, or else it's a penalty is how I'm remembering it. They're just grasping at straws and embarrassing themselves.
The Canadiens are just ate up with the cuckery with all of this whining. "You tell me who the better team was?" Okay, sure thing. The US didn't have their best player overskate a breakaway and fail to get a shot off like McDavid did. The US didn't completely fan on a wide open net like MacKinnon did. The US didn't blow 1:40 ish of 5 v 3 powerplay time where they only generated I think 2 shots like the Canadien unit did.
The fact is that you generated more chances than the US but you failed time and again to convert and scoring chances don't count on the scoreboard. You couldn't solve Hellebuyck and the US found ways to solve Bennington. Also, in OT with 3 All Stars on the ice, you loafed on the way back defensively after overcommitting and giving an odd man rush back the other way and the one guy who was back got bullied off the puck and you gave up a prime chance to a US scorer, who by the way did what you couldn't and found a way to bury the puck in the back of the net. You didn't deserve to win and your crying about it won't change that reality.

Looks like the World Cup of Hockey is tentatively planned for February of 2028 and will have NHL players, so it sounds like we will get best-on-best again in two years.
It would occur in North America, so the NHL season break hopefully wouldn't have to be as long. Previously, the World Cup has taken place before the season in September, so this would be a calendar change.

The league, union and International Ice Hockey Federation have an agreement to participate in 2030 in the French Alps, pending finalizing a deal with the International Olympic Committee. But the next chance for best-on-best country versus country competition is not that far away: The World Cup of Hockey is set for February 2028.
The NHL and NHLPA are in lock step on a lot of issues, including the aim of establishing an international calendar with this kind of tournament every other year. The IIHF is on board, too.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Somebody wanna troll this fella? He seems to be deep into the denial stage about his beloved hockey team losing. Somewhere in his tweets he went there using the no-Crosby excuse why Canada lost.

Watching Canadian fans cope with this loss is like watching gumps cope with a loss during the Saban years. It is amazing how the excuse machine gets into full gear.
The amount of turns and spins from them, you'd think they were hardcore about the figure skating lifestyle instead of hockey. Free comedy watching them cope and make excuses.

You know, one of the things that I enjoyed the most… I’m a Lightning fan (well they are my adopted team from living there) I figured Jon Cooper, would do this, texted to my group text “watch him throw Mackinnon, McDavid and Makar out there”
I figured it would happen, just not at the opening faceoff of OT. Our guys did a great job of not panicking and pinching… we actually did similar stuff in the 5 on 3 kill.
Wasn’t those 3 all on the ice when we scored the game winner?

This is one of the reasons I wasn’t upset they came back and won their semifinal game.
For me, the gold medal win HAD to be against them. HAD to be. Did I want it to go to OT? Not necessarily. Now that we won am I glad that it did? ABSOfrickINGLUTELY. Now we have a “golden goal” moment and ours is even better considering who was on the ice, who turned it over, etc.

The other thing I haven't mentioned much is the NCAA vs. CHL argument. All but four US players played NCAA (Matthews, M. Tkachuk, Miller and Trocheck).
There can be an argument that the NCAA guys were too good for NCAA, but there's that thing again about people talking about how good the CHL players are and the NCAA is a bunch of rejects. I suppose their blind bias for the CHL being the top option is going to distort the argument. But our majority NCAA team just beat an all-CHL team.

Because if NIL, the NCAA is going to increase its presence on these teams. The projected top pick in next year’s draft is at Penn State, and the Flyers #1 pick is at MSU. Allows them to develop against adults instead of younger kids in juniors.

bare minimum mcdavid who decided not to back check with any urgency and mackinnon who became werenski's son
but i also believe makar was on the ice at that time but might need to rewatch to confirm

He was. He lunged for the Puck that Hughes chipped out of the defensive zone, springing Werenski.
Makar made a 50/50 decision. Lunge and miss, and you're out of possession and flat footed to spring a 2-on-1. Lunge and make it, and you have McDavid back deep in the offensive zone. Hughes beat him to it.
I don't feel bad for the Canadian people, or Team Canada, at all. It is, however, desperately unfortunate that the mindset and mental wellbeing of an entire nation rests upon Connor McDavid's shoulders. That guy has been a known commodity since he was like 13. And he's lived up to the billing and then some. But the Canadian people see him as a bum because he isn't perfect.

Canada people saying they were the better team are forgetting the US went post to post on a shot right before the 2nd intermission. We might have not even gone to OT with the way Hellebuyck was standing on his head.

When that happened live, I was convinced it hit the back of the net and came back out. Had to see a replay to realize it was dual posts.

If you look at the entirety of what he said, it wasn’t whining. It was essentially saying “you can decide who was better. They won, we didn’t.”
It sure as shite ain’t the whining Cooper had in the postgame presser

I'm trying to figure out who's whining more. Is it the Canadians about losing or CNN about the celebration?

quote:I thought about this and wonder if others feel the same, but is there such a thing as too fast in hockey? Obviously to be able to just zoom around the defense is a weapon, but he would close the distance on the goalie so fast that it seemed like his options for shot selection would evaporate just as quickly and he'd get forced into something less than ideal.
The US didn't have their best player overskate a breakaway and fail to get a shot off like McDavid did.

I don’t really care. I’m gonna keep celebrating. I’ve waited so long for this moment. I paid the USA hockey dues (literally and figuratively)for probably close for probably 20 (years. (mostly my parents lol) Sunday made it seem worth it. Finally!
Now if the Dems refuse to stand and applaud our gold medal hockey team at the SOTU… the celebration just got that much more intensified.
