I don't believe that will be sucking much if any initially. Will take them a while to optimize it just like the riser insertion tube did.

shouldn't those pumps have been on for awhile now tring to get them primed? i mean I spend hours trying to get sump pumps primed before they pump, why would they wait til they were over teh oil to begin priming the pumps? or is this one of those different below the ocean vs. on land things?

Looking at the amount of oil coming out around it I'm not sure the pumps with that diameter riser could keep up with that flow.

I hope it can but it just doesn't look like it.

I thought the same thing. it also seems like they could have designed something with a rubber seal that would slip around the flange, and then could be pressurized to close the rubber seal around the flange.

According to the animation on nola.com, there are valves on the LMRP that will initially flow but will be shut once the oil and gas has reached the Enterprise.

Beam it up.

also guys, they have some ball valves that are open to relieve pressure right now that I am sure they plan on closing now that the cap is on.

Because they want to try and suck up as little water as possible. You really don't want to fill up your tank with alot of fresh water

correct me if I am wrong but that is not the LMRP right? That is the original Top Hat that was manufactured after the cofferdam.

Same view here. Still looks like it's coming out of the top hat into the gulf...
