From what I understand from the videos and graphics out there, the tophat is the capture device, which feeds into a riser, which feeds into the LMRP, which pumps up a pipe to the ship. There's also a methanol solution being circulated between the LMRP and the tophat to prevent hydrates from forming.

Not wanting too much water in the tank? Is that to allow for maximum room for oil or for some other reason? Not being sarcastic just curious

It's so less hydrates can form, I believe.

You knowledgeable posters, give us an idea of how long before we see signs of whether it's worked or not.

looks like they might be trying to close one, if so that is great news and oil is reaching the ship

Probably don't have to worry about that in the gulf or ocean. (wink)

looks like it is still on there to me

COTiger, I have no clue. I'm just going off of what data has been put out there on the 'net, most of which has BP branding attached to it so I'm assuming it's coming from their source. I'm just a software/techie guy.

So the hat's supposed to seal, or provide a path for the stuff to get topside?

Same view here. Still looks like it's coming out of the top hat into the gulf
No....The top hat looks like it is probably working....once they get some flow to the topside they will play around with it to maximize it.....they want some losses which indicate that they are getting no seawater in the LMRP...
Sort of like a municipal water supply system.

So what happens once the drill ship if full?
Posted on 6/3/10 at 8:55 pm to COTiger
Gas should get to the topside in about an hour....oil in about 2 or 3 hours (if I remember correctly)

redstick, I value your opinion.
What can you tell? Is it working?
Thanks

They'll be able to transfer from the Enterprise onto barges/tankers, from what they've said. If this works, we should be good as long as weather doesn't chase the Enterprise away.

GTFO and bring a new one in, I'm hoping.
