I went to bed. Did the poor guy get the bolt out?!?!
I've been watching them try to get that socket on that bolt for like 20 minutes now. I can't imgaine how frustrated that ROV op must be.
Also, does anyone have any idea whats going on in poseidon ROV I?
I see that in one view the level on the BOP is closer to level than it has been. Are they attempting to level it off or is just free floating and happens to be more level now? Or are they just looking at the valve next to the level thinking about opening it?
Does anyone know how the BOP failed? Reason I ask is because one circumstance I read was that the drill pipe in the BOP caused the valves to fail. Now that they have the riser pipe cut off couldn't the drill pipe be removed allowing the valves to continue operation. I know this seems like an obvious solution and if it could work they would have done it by now...just looking to better understand the situation.
The other question unanswered with unbolting the top of the BOP is once they start taking out bolts and the pressure starts pushing up against it, the other bolts will even harder to take out.
You know with all the useful knowledge and insight I've been getting from this website, I almost feel bad that i'm a psu fan.
Oh. thanks for the info on the dispersant. didn't realize thats all it was.
I just watched the animation everyone was posting last night about how the cap was supposed to work. The part that confuses me is according to that animation, with the valves closed the oil should be leaking out of the topof the cap. But watching the live feeds, it looks like the oil is coming out of the bottom. Is this due to a lack of seal on the connection?
All day they've been pumping dispersants into the steam, does anyone know if this is the new safer dispersant or are they still using the original stuff that is supposed to be so bad for the environment.
What is the red box hanging down in Boa Deep C ROV I?
Yeah but if you didn't know everything RedStick, who would tell all of us that don't know anything why our ideas won't work or what we're looking at when we stare at the ROV feeds like dogs staring at fire hydrants.
Thanks for the insight. I have students here in class watching all this unfold and "how do you become an ROV driver?" is the most popular question.
WOW I would have really thought with everything that could go wrong and the split second decisions they might have to make.... wow either way they are doing an awesome job.
What kind of training/education do the ROV guys have? I would assume that they have some sort of engineering degree.
Even if he did have a press conference he doesn't seem to be giving up too much information. Anybody hear any more about them getting narration to go along with the video feeds. CNN was really pushing for that last night.
Every time those ROVs just sit still like that I can't help but think hopefully those ROV ops are taking a well deserved coffee break.
That hydrogeologist was probably hanging out with the nuke guys who told the President blowing the well up would work.
I missed a couple hours. Did we make a decision as to whether this thing appears to be working or not? Still a large plume but is that because we still haven't closed the valves?
You're absolutely right about the litigation. Thankfully the US government was very stern about keeping the feeds going
When you're done answering that question Redstick could you also provide some insight into what is going to prevent this from happening to the relife wells being drilled?
