Redstick? mentioned the other day that they couldn't unbolt the flange because the last bolt would bind.
How about this bad boy "in a larger size of course".

Yesterday someone was talking about an undersea power unit. That may be what that big boxy thing is.

Just to let everyone know. Just before dawn this morning I watched them hook up the tophat thing to the riser. It is currently shown on the Enterprise – ROV 2 feed. Waiting to be deployed. It was pretty cool to watch.

great...it seems like the BOP is designed to prevent a blowout (well, duh) but when you are now dealing with a blowout...I can't believe that the system isn't valved for the occasion when the rams fail
What do you think a pipe ram is? A gigantic gate valve.

I wonder why they dont put the diamond saw back on and cut from the other side. It should be a lot easier cut as I would suspect the drill pipe has fallen down the well now.

No high pressure valves can be installed ABOVE the BOP because nothing ABOVE the BOP is rated for high pressure. The reason for that is because it would add more weight to the riser and BOP assembly than the drilling rigs can support.
I think I've probably posted this 10 times in the past few days.

Do we know when they're going to be putting the cap on the bop? I want to make sure to watch it live.

I can't tell what they're doing but it does look like they are gettign ready to do something. Looks like valves being turned of some sort and electrical connections being made to the big box thingy.

Viking Poseidon ROV 2 feed.
That large metal box.
Is that basically a big tool box that all of the ROV's go to switch tools out?

What in the hell is that little floating ball on a stick thing I am seeing on these ROV's

The monkey fist knot?
So they have a knot of string on the end of a stick that just flows back and forth with the water?

I think they use it to visualize the current. Or it could be some kinda Cajun voodoo charm.

It gives them one more tool to help them control the ROVs. Can't imagine its a very easy job with the low visibility and the 5000 feet of seperation.

That has as good a chance as anything at working, apparently.
Seriously, have they given us an ETA for when they will begin hooking up the top hat?

Absolutely. Plus, the hydrils can close on themselves, although they cannot hold as much pressure.

How is everyone surveying the feeds?
LINK to all feeds
I just right click each link to open in a new tab, and they all open on the same tab. So, I use the forward back button to scan them.
I think I am addicted to watching this.
