great...it seems like the BOP is designed to prevent a blowout (well, duh) but when you are now dealing with a blowout...I can't believe that the system isn't valved for the occasion when the rams fail
1: Keep in mind that five levels of preventer failed here. Two hydrils, two vbrs, and a shear ram.
2: You close the hydril (annular preventer) first. It is almost always rated for less pressure than the pipe rams, but you can move the pipe in the hydril, which you want to do when you are downhole to keep from getting stuck. You can't move pipe in the pipe rams.
3. If the first hyrdil fails, you close the second one.
4. If that fails, you close one of the pipe rams.
5. If that fails, you close the second pipe ram.
6. If that fails, you close the shear rams.
7. If there is no pipe in the hole, you close the blind rams.
Now that, my friend, is one hell of a lot of redundancy.

Is then plan here to set the top hat, then pipe the oil to the drill ship and off load it to tankers until the relief wells are finished and then plug everything up?

smartass response......No, they are bringing it to the surface to make a fountain with the oil like at the Belagio in Vegas. They need it to look pretty do Obama will think it's better.
honest response....Yes

looks like they got the little box off of the top of the BOP.

That cut looks bad now. One side looks to be 6 inches higher than the other

Easy to say in hindsight. To quote what someone said here earlier, they did not have a plan for an asteroid hitting the rig either.
Plus, neither you nor I nor anyone knows what really happened yet.

Brilliant. Hurry up and wait.

The reason I asked, outside of not knowing, is I thought they may intend to make use of the well after all this mess has been cleaned up.

Anyone know what the blue hose with the quick disconnect is for?

I ABSOLUTELY know it did not work!
And they are ready for and asteroid strike...if that happens the BOP is supposed to kick in and seal the well with one of it's six fricking redundant stages!
Wake up and don't be an a-hole to us, we did nothing.

That is on purpose I guess. The flange assembly is bent from the riser being bent over when the rig sunk. The cut looks crooked but is actually parrallel to the ground and surface.
I don't know if they meant that or if some sort of leveling system made it cut that way.
This is my opinion only, but did notice the riser and flange were definitely bent.
