If that was my kid, I'd be in the cage in 5 seconds.

I would not attack the gorilla, but I'd try to distract it somehow.

The gorilla may or may not attack and kill me and my kid, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I watch my child get beaten to death.

Id like to think most parents would risk death to try to save their kid.

Yes, (from what I've read) they had a contingency plan for this. It was what they did. Props to the zoo for their response.

The only way I can conceive of the animal being spared without (perhaps) increasing the risk to the child would be if the animal created enough space between the child and the animal, i.e., went to the the other side of the cage away from the child. That might afford some opportunity to interject a barrier (net), fire houses (?), and tranquilize the animal. If the animal shows any sign of aggression afterwards, you kill it without hesitation.

I'm amazed at the outrage. It's a fricking male gorilla. Don't male gorillas kill young male gorillas? Or am I just thinking of lions or something else?

Regardless. Read a yahoo article that mentioned a Facebook petition? To what end? I almost chimed in but did not want page attacked.

The kids parents should be fined or have to pay the zoo in some way for the loss of their animal. Or is this just the cost of running a zoo?

Gorilla would own you in less time than it took you to jump in.

The idea that the parents should have to pay for the cost of the gorilla is laughable.

Why in the world? They didn't drop the kid in the gorilla tank on purpose. Obviously the kids parents should be paying closer attention, but some people are getting ridiculous with the parent bashing here

Looks like they've identified the parents....

They seem like a decent family who clearly need to pay better attention.
I hate when stories focus on one aspect of a person to push the narrative. I'm not sure why the dad having a criminal Al record is relevant

If you're ever at fault for anything just say, "Accidents Happen" and all is forgiven? Sorry, the world doesn't work that way.

That's not what I said, buy since we are teaching about "the way the world works" what about the zoos liability?
what's stopping the parents from accusing the zoo of having unsafe facilities? I'm pretty sure the zoo doesn't want an investigation like that. The public is on their side, better to keep it that way

You are probably right. Zoos take on a "cost of doing business" aspect. If you are going to put animals near the public and children? shite like this is gonna happen. Unless you place security measures that are prison like. Which will injure some person or child and the zoo gets sued or an animal would hurt itself and the outrage would be ridiculous.

Understand that I agree the gorilla should have been shot?

Male gorillas do not take to well to other young male primates. From what I recall from discovery channel etc. and darting the gorilla would certainly enrage it. It slip off quietly to sleep after bludgeoning or dismembering that boy.

And that reasoning only applies to the parents of the child?

What would have happened if he was holding the little black kid? Would he have been shot? #BlackGorillaLivesMatter

The zoo needs to call Alexander Shunnarah and sue the parents.

Jack Hannah said that's he is 100% certain that had they not killed the gorrilla the child would be dead.

They should NOT have killed the animal. I understand that a human was in danger(I guess) but too bad.
So we kill a 4 year old because his parents messed up. I swear I lose faith in mankind by reading this board
