They parents should still be held accountable in some way. If a kid broke something in a store when the parents weren't paying attention even for a few seconds don't you think the parents should pay? I'm not saying they should charged with a crime but while accidents can/will happen someone is still to blame.

What if there were 30 gorillas in the enclosure. The silverback is sitting there holding the kid like a football and all the others are watching from a close distance. Do you get the entire swat team and assign each shooter a gorilla and drop the whole troop simultaneously?

I know that accidents happen... and human life and all that... but damn if I don't feel extreme ire toward that mother for that beautiful, sentient creature having to lose its life because of stupid humans.

OT is great. Tons of upset people for 1 gorilla getting killed to save a human being.

Completely fine with innocent women and children being bombed over in the Middle East

Get a grip people, it is a freaking gorilla

Some of us are more ticked that the mother isn't facing any sort of punishment after her son was put in great danger and an endangered animal was killed. And this is definetly not just the OT.

I'm not ticked about trading a human life for an animal life. It's the seemingly needlessness of it all that's angering.

Nice strawman argument. I'm completely against the much of actions this country has been waging in Middle Eastern countries.

Respect for one's shared environment and living things. It would seem one of the most basic tenets of humanity.

Just like a fetus, a gorilla is not a person,

so killing one should not be a big deal.

Do they not keep tranquilizer guns on hand for things like this?

Not the gorilla's fault the idiot parents can't keep an eye on their kid. I hope the parents have to pay to replace the gorilla for the zoo.

This has been covered extensively already. Using a tranquilizer is not a viable option in a situation like this because it takes between 5 to 10 minutes for it to take effect. By the time the gorilla is sedated, he could have ripped that kid apart.

Sorry.,. But I blame the parents here.... If you take a child to a public venue, YOU should know where he is at all time. They should NOT have killed the animal. I understand that a human was in danger(I guess) but too bad. If the parents had done THEIR job.... We would not be having this thread......

WGAF it's a gorilla.

I hope the zoo gets sued for allowing a 4 year old to fall in.

How about a harpoon, net gun, taser/cattle prods, sound cannon, rubber bullets, bean bags or basically anything non-lethal that could have distracted or drove the animal away from the kid? They don't have a contingency plan in case someone gets into the enclosure? That just seems careless for the animal as well as the patrons..

Yes, the animal locked in a cage for our amusement should be allowed to kill children who fall in

Surely you're not serious. The parents, should be charged with child endangerment. It's amazing the lengths people will go to to rid them of their children.

So you'd rather the kid be killed by the gorilla than the gorilla be killed to save the kid? Is that what you're saying?
