I do not think this word means what you think it means

How does one view something like this as being force-fed? And how is this even an example of over-representation?

I can only speak for myself here.
I don’t have a problem at all with a character being black. This girl is attractive and she’ll be easy on my eyes if/when I take my daughter to see this movie. No problem at all with her race.
What I do have a problem with, however, is Disney intentionally going out of their way to cast the mermaid actress as a black girl when the original was white. My daughter loves the mermaid so I showed her the preview a few days ago. She just stared at it with a look of confusion on her face. She could tell it was very different than what she’s used to. It’s supposed to be a remake but it’s not the same at all.
Intentionally casting the mermaid as a black girl is just as racist as only having white people in their movies. Having a black mermaid is not a problem at all. Intentionally having a black mermaid is a huge fricking problem, though. I’m not racist but I do recognize bullshite racism when I see it.
If they want to bring diversity to their screen, make new movies with black characters. Don’t remake original movies with black characters just to appease the woke crowd because it makes no sense.

I don't think your question is relevant. It just looks like something that I'd never watch. The color of her skin has nothing to do with that. I really don't care.
Why did you respond to an irrelevant question? Also I don't think you fit their target demograhpic of elementary school girls

I would venture to say that most Disney "Princesses" in the past were intended to be caucasian. I doubt there was much consideration of making Cinderealla black or even letting black folks in the theater in 1950

I just want the next Black Panther to be a white guy to see what the reaction would be.

If Tiana, Mulan, Pocahontas, Esmeralda (Hunchback), or any other character known for being a minority was white in a future version, shite would meet fan.
Don’t see this guy too often

When you take a beloved property and start fricking with it, people will say something.
If you did a new version of Grease where Rizzo was a tranny, you would see Karen coming out of the woodwork to bitch about it.

And on the flip side, you do know there are such things as fair haired Jews, right?
Just because they spent time in Egypt didn’t necessarily mean they were black.

It’s not “wrong” for the actor cast to be black. Nothing wrong with that in a normal world.
What’s wrong, however, is that if the original character would’ve been black and a white person would’ve been cast in this movie, the woke mob would’ve canceled the actor, movie, and Disney for making that choice.
It’s a double standard that is ruining Hollywood.
I don’t care what race, creed, orientation, or size an actor is because that’s what actors are supposed to do…play roles that are against type.
But when a white, straight, skinny person playing a role that isn’t just “white, straight, or skinny” they get incredible backlash, and that’s a major problem.

If your child looks at someone and distinguishes them by their race, that’s on you Buddy

Or use African fairy/folk tales - there are plenty

Why, because they can't spot the difference for themselves?
Posted on 9/14/22 at 9:29 am to GreenRockTiger
Yep.
Go look through Aesop’s fables or pull something out of African mythology for something that hasn’t gotten overexposed before.
Except the entire point of this is to do a cash-in on an existing property while trying to get woke points in the process. So they don’t want to take a risk on a property without a built in fan base.
